Comments Thread For: WBC, IBF, WBA Eye Unifications, Mid-Point System

Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Gilberto Mendoza, leader of the World Boxing Association (WBA) and Daryl Peoples, head of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), met in Playa del Carmen where they agreed to target a tournament of champions for 2015. They want to encourage their champions in each division to face each other.

I hope they're actually committed to this idea and not just talking. It would give the sport an incredible boost to have an actual champion in each division. I think they should take it a step further and go back to the original weight divisions as well, but I'd be happy enough to have one real champion for each weight class.

The unification bouts sound like a great idea and I hope they happen but the mid point system is just plain ****** and unnecessary.

Don't like the thought of mid points at all. It'll just be a cluster when the scores are calculated and read

I always liked the idea of half points because it creates a better score for really close rounds 9.5-10 and a better option for a round a guy dominates without a knockdown 8.5-10.

If scored properly it makes the scoring of rounds ore inline with what the public actually sees. Instead of one round where a guy edges and one round where a dude pastes the other guy are scored the exact same, do you think that is not confusing to the public?

The topic is in most cases deciding who won the round is already a tough decision for the guys scoring. Now them having to decide if that round winner one by 0.5, 1 or 1.5 points is much worse.

There's no guarantee that a judge will use the midpoint system. Some judges may just say 'F this, I'll just score the way I'm comfortable scoring'

Will WBO still stand their own still if the other 3 organization does unification? Because WBA, WBC, IBF belt >>> WBO belt.
What I also don't understand is the WBO has the closest relatinoship with TR and Arum and they have the most TR champions. Isn't it Arum's best interest that he could match his small stable of fighters/champions against other fighters/champions? I surprised that he doesn't lobby for this idea which is alos great for the sport IMO.

The mid poin system sounds ****** though but Idon't care if inexchange for it they make the unification idea. That would be just great. But WBO needs to join otherwise there will be still a wicket for the promotion companies to not match their fighter against each other. The IBF-WBA-WBC belt will be much stronger than the WBO though...
