Ah gotcha, yeah I agree. I mean, the stuff being said about Floyd isn't wrong. The point people miss, though, is that all of the stuff HBO raises about Floyd (domestic violence, etc.) happened on THEIR watch. Wasn't an issue even as he was facing jail, when it was time to make the Cotto fight. Yet once he crossed the street, his past suddenly defines him. W/eva

Pacquiao won't go to 154 he's too small for that, and Canelo will never go below 154, he stated himself that he felt like a zombie when he fought Floyd @152.
Would be a blockbuster fight but seems impossible to do.Comment

Wow some of you people are idiots.
This isn't the NFL where a team that got beat in the playoffs can come and say, 'oh we're also playing on Superbowl Sunday, across town in another stadium.'
This is boxing, Canelo went to HBO and can fight on any day he wants. There's no earning of dates.
Smfh @ these morons.
Wrong.
Dates are earned becuse the networks give them to the fighters they think will max out profits on those dates. Canelo beating Floyd would have put his popularity through the roof. The PPV buys would have automatically followed. He was embarassed though and the PPV buys have followed that as well.
HBO wont give him those dates if Floyd is also fighting on the same date. Not enough PPV buyers to go around.Comment

Canelo thinks he's bigger than Mayweather and will generate better numbers if he fights on those dates. He's in for a rude awakening though when he realizes that a fight with Cotto will hav to be done on his terms, as well as a fight with Arum's property. Canelo is going to be B side in any fight involving a PPV star. This is going to get to interesting.. Camelot thinks his only obstacle will be Mayweather but Cotto promotes himself and gets paid much more than Canelo. Cotto will get the lion share of everything as well as Arum if they decide on Pacquiao.
I supported Alvarez this year on his PPVs, but not any more based on his recent comments. His fight with Lara did worse numbers than his first PPV headliner so it's not very smart of him to compete against the guy who schooled him for 12 rds. Plus he is trying to compete against an American in the American market. He better fight in Mexico... And even then Mayweather will still pull more support from the Western Hemisphere.Last edited by Slick Veteran; 09-24-2014, 10:19 AM.Comment

Canelo moving to HBO in order to "reclaim" Mexican holidays with big PPV fights sounds good, and a showdown with Cotto in MGS sounds great...BUT, Canelo hasn't had a very defining win against a respected fighter since he beat Trout. Angulo is past his prime, and fought Canelo in slow motion. I believe he's still wildly popular among Mexicans, but in order to truly rival Mayweather's PPV draw, he really needs a big win over a big name first. That fighter should either be in his weight class or close enough to it where no catch weight is necessary. Chavez, JR and GGG come to mind. Andre Ward would be interesting, if he ever gets his **** together with his promoter.Comment

Let's not forget though, Mayweather didn't look all that great in his last fight, and he is only contracted for 2 more bouts. He may do one more to try to beat Marciano's record, but by and large, he's done soon. Canelo has the potential to become the next big PPV star, but he's going to have to show us much more than what he did against Lara. I think he jumped the gun in going to PPV. He should have developed his style more first. He's either an under-developed future star, or a hype job. Only time and quality opponents will tell.Canelo thinks he's bigger than Mayweather and will generate better numbers if he fights on those dates. He's in for a rude awakening though when he realizes that a fight with Cotto will hav to be done on his terms, as well as a fight with Arum's property. Some of you Floyd fans don't get it.
Mayweather and opponent X won't outpull Alvarez vs Cotto on Cinco de Mayo.
Mexico-PR rivalry + Mex fighter.... = ...Floyd left out in the dust.
That's the truth. Deal with it. He'd have to fight PAC or pick another date.
De La Hoya intends to grant Canelo's wish. Everything De La Hoya has said, he's followed through on. And ODLH also said he wants to make the best fights.
Put 2+2 together. ODLH will match Canelo with an intriguing opponent in May.Comment
