Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Denies Verbal Deal With SHO on Canelo

The news of Canelo Alvarez returning to HBO hit the rumor mill quick enough to where its eventual announcement became boxing’s worst kept secret.

Despite the whispers of such a move taking place, the brass at Showtime had to read about it through social media instead of hearing it firsthand. The network has aired Alvarez’ last five fights, the first coming in Sept. ’12 in a move that marked what was viewed at the time as the beginning of the end of Golden Boy Promotions’ relationship with HBO.

Here is what TRULY happened in a nutshell...

Oscar doesn't like Floyd, and much less the commitment they have to him. He knows everything works around Floyd at SHO now. He saw HBO as an open market and went back.

THING is, it is looking bad for SHO and great for HBO. TR and GB are now both with HBO... and SHO went all in on Floyd, and will pay the consequences once he has retired. ALSO, SHO will lose subscribers due to this... Mayweather does not fight on regular SHO.

It's funny how everything plays out though, HBO will end back on top and SHO back as the irrelevant boxing network it once was. I love it though, nobody hypes up and presents a fight like HBO does.

        If you can prove it.

I am going to say Oscar was stringing them along to get through this Floyd fight considering how the chain of events went.

Canelo knew Floyd would get the May 2 date next year. Canelo switches to HBO to get the date and face Cotto. Showtime will lose money if Mayweather fights Khan on May 2.

Espinoza said there were hundreds of people in the room....Oscar said it, so it was written in law by Espinoza's ears
