Besides all that, staying with Showtime would mean Alvarez fighting Haymon opponents, most of whom are movers like the Charlos/Trout or huggers like Smith/Molina, who isn't even allowed in the US.
At HBO, they have potential fights with Cotto (2-3 fights), Kirkland, Golovkin, Chavez Jr., Pacquiao, Clottey, Brook, Martinez etc.

Canelo wants to be a star, and Showtime has yet to show that they know how to build megastars or even stars.
Canelo also wants floyds ppv dates, and rightfully so, Showtime was trying to hold him back. Canelo has real ambition unlike Haymons puppet fighters. HBO is a good home for him.

Oscar will be left with nothing once all of Haymon's guys leave GoldenGirl Promotions and join Mayweather promotions.

Canelo had the opportunity to beat Floyd Mayweather, the current pound-for-pound king. He took no risks and was thoroughly embarrassed.
Canelo rebounded by fighting a shot Alfredo Angulo. He didn't make weight.
Canelo next fought Erislandy Lara at a catchweight. His performance was far from stellar and many believed Lara deserved the victory.
If Canelo can't start performing like the dominant, elite fighter he's supposed to be, no network will be able to turn him into the megastar he wants to be.
