  • No style has an advantage over Joe Calzaghe's style

slick, crafty boxer-puncher/counterpunching/clinching hybrid, with blazing handspeed and good defense...I was trying to think of a style that could have an advantage over calzaghe if the fighter arrived in top condition, I was thinking maybe a swarmer/slugger hybrid in top condition but Joe is a very top-notch in and out fighter, with blazing handspeed...fast straight shots like that will nullify a swarmer, and if joe presses the attack after those initial shots land, it's all joe, because no swarmer knows how to fight moving backwards. of course, we all saw what he did to a textbook slugger in Jeff Lacy, so that style has an obvious disadvantage vs joe.

I have come to one conclusion, the only style capable of beating Joe Calzaghe on points or any other way is another boxer puncher-counterpuncher hybrid, and even then nobody has a style advantage. joe's style is, 'solid as a rock' when it comes to other people having an advantage over him style-wise.

You're a jackass. Every boxer has weaknesses. Just because calz beat one overrated tomato can doesn't prove **** until he fights outside his safe haven and fights real competition. Toney would kill Calz. Thats someone who can fight backwards.

What you nuthuggers are failing to realize is lacy is the smaller version of samuel peter. Unskilled overhyped one weapon tomato can with no experience!

yeah man, joe is very beatable - he totally out-classed a novice in lacy and became the man @ 168. but to say his style is unbeatable is pure horse****.

he's a feather fisted, puncher who took on a guy w/ no defense - how is his style, unbeatable?

Joe had a good win over Lacy, and looked great doing it, but you guys are getting carried away. Lacy didn't even swarm Joe, for one, and there is definitely a style that can give Joe problems. That style is that of Antonio Tarver. Tarver's height and huge reach and power would give Joe plenty to think about. Roy had blazing speed, moreso than Joe, and Tarver was able to get the better of things.

Tarver's style doesn't nullify speed, but it does lessen the advantage a speedy guy might've had on him.

How come the welsh doesn't box outside that rainy ****hole of an island? Afraid to fight boxers with actual records, skills, and experience?

yeah, not exactly feather-fisted, my bad - the thread title just had me baffled like, my God we got another rider in here. he does have a bunch of KO's so hes not feather fisted but to think that no style has an advantage over another is pure ******ity. yeah, he hit lacy w/ about 1000 punches and almost put him down. what, are you all going to tell me now that @ 168, in their primies that roy jones and toney take a loss to this guy?
