Comments Thread For: Jessie Vargas is Now Being Trained By Roy Jones Jr.

Undefeated WBA junior welterweight champion Jessie Vargas has advised Boxingscene.com that he is now being trained by former pound for pound king Roy Jones.

Vargas was most recently trained by veteran trainer Ismael Salas who accepted an offer to train in England.

The Las Vegas native said that Salas wanted to continue training him overseas but he prefered to continue training for his November 22nd title defense against Antonio Demarco at home.

I'm never a fan of having some ATG as a trainer or coach... Hardly ever works out

same they usually expect that you can do what they did in their prime and a guy like Jones jr will not acknowledge that you cant do it no more so a horrible match up.

Whether it works out or not, young Vargas will definitely learn a few things from the great Roy Jones.

Jesse moves just like a prime RJJ, this is a perfect combo.

Can't pass judgement until he fights...sometimes a low level fighter makes for a great coach and sometimes an ATG fails at coaching. It all depends on how well Roy can communicate to Jesse and how receptive Jesse is to Roy.

Roy can show him more than almost any 1, but will Vargas listen/execute??
