that's b.s. there's no rumor that he 'hurt' him at all. I've seen all the anecdotal rumors about their sparring and yes abel sanchez who is golovkin's trainer said that they needed someone that would be more aggressive against GGG but that in no way insinuates anything because it's just sparring and maybe Kovalev didn't want to go all out, after all he's the much heavier guy maybe he didn't want to hurt GGG.
Anyways Kovalev clearly punches harder, has shorter more devastating punches whereas GGG is a more dynamic puncher. Kovalev has far more early round knockouts in fact the vast majority of his fights end by knockout within the first 2-3 rounds or earlier.
Kovalev's punches look a little less spectacular but if you actually look closely at them he IS putting his body into them very heavily as opposed to throwing arm punches as someone might of suggested. Kovalev really turns and bends his body heavily into his shots especially the left hook.
