Say rigo got KO'd by donaire. Although if didn't happen there would still be a "story" to the bout if it did.

Maybe to shut up those who try to suggest Marquez is a superior fighter because he landed one punch. Up until that punch landed Marquez looked to have a broken nose and seemed to have issues breathing, and it looked like ok finally Manny is proving he is the better fighter, and it felt like it was just a matter of a few rounds before he ended it. Does that have anything to do with who won the fight? Not at all! Marquez won because he landed a punch that knocked Manny the fck out. That is fighting though, anything can happen at anytime. One thing to consider though is the randomness of how the punch landed. When you watch the reply in slow motion you can see Manny steps on the foot of Marquez at the very moment the punch lands. Now, i've been practicing fighting for years, and anyone who has also and is honest should know that Manny stepping on the foot of Marquez like that as the punch landed would take away his ability to have proper balance in order to go with the punch. Manny has gotten hit plenty by Cotto and some other good punchers, but he has great reflexes and is able to go with the punch in time to take enough steam off of it so that he does not get hurt. He was not able to do this because when he stepped on his foot as the punch landed, he did not have proper balance to do so, and his body was like dead weight. That is why he got knocked the Fck out. I bet a penny if Manny did not step on his foot the moment that punch landed, he would not have been knocked out. He may have very well been knocked down, but I doubt strongly he would have been knocked out. So the coincidence of that is very random, and it surprises me nobody else really has brought that up. I think this fact makes it totally valid to have a rematch. With that being said. Marquez won the fight. Although to me it is clear he is not a better fighter than Manny. Anyone who compares the two and tries to make that claim, i dont trust.
What was awesome to see is Manny seemed to be humored genuinely about it after it happened. Not embarrassed the slightest bit. I can tell he does not have an ego like most fighters, he simply is smart enough to understand anything can happen in a fight, and even if a guy knocks you out, it does not mean they are the better fighter. It is just not that simple. Just like Paul Williams and Martinez, so many people try to say Martinez is a better fighter just because he lands one punch, but up until that punch they had fought like 14 rounds and many would say Paul Williams won more rounds. So it is not possible to say Martinez is a better fighter just because Paul Williams was open for one punch to land and knock him out. The best way to determine that is to judge all of the rounds together as a whole. I know this does not fit into most agendas of the people who post typical nonsense on this site, but thats tough because this is reality.

But of course it matters what happened before a ko. If Pac was getting the crap beaten out of him, before he got ko'ed he might need to think about retiring.

But the fact that he was doing great until the 6th round, instead of going for the kill and ko against JMM, he should have continued doing what he was doing and won just about 4 fights on points against JMM.
Just like Floyd tries winning on points and not going for a ko, even though Floyd says he was. Floyd said he was going to ko Maidana, yet spent nearly the whole fight running or clinching. Floyd don't go in for the kill so therefore doesn't get knocked sparko.
He was already floored once before the 6th round man...how is that doing great?

because getting a ko doesn't necessarily mean you fought the better fight or is the better fighter?

Larry, use your head before creating topics.

Manny equaled the knock down count with Marquez before getting put to sleep by Marquez & he was winning on the scorecards. He might have been winning by 1 round or more than than..the point is that he was up on the cards. Isn't your topic all about that? (winning on the scorecards).

So let's recap...can people win on the scorecards before getting KTFO? Logic says "yes".
In the end what matters more? "The W".

It's more about accuracy. In general I don't have a problem with people saying, "X was winning the fight until Y came with a KO," so long as they're depicting the correct image. Makes sense to say Graham was doing so well until Jackson clipped his wings.

What annoys me are sets of fans trying to discredit a victory and being deceitful. For example sake... Pacquiao v Marquez; people behave as though the fight was a one sided beating, in Pacquiao's favour, when the fact of the matter is it was a close and competitive fight in the build up to the knockout. Pacquiao was only up on the scorecards because he could not finish the round after Marquez hit him with a brutal right hand.

In short, it's not something I have a problem with so long as it is accurate and credit is given where credit is due.

marquez was only in that fight because of the earlier knockdown anyway

infact, the only thing that kept it competitive was the huge strength disparity between the two, anytime marquez touched him he nearly killed him

my guess is the combination of pacquiao off the S&C training and marquez on crazy amounts of crazy stuff
