    Sometimes it's the same thing. Lockridge and LaPorte were former titlists when they fought Chavez. They were also still top contenders.

    Chavez beat better fighters any way you slice it. Stat'ing it out is just one indication. One can note the numbers for Narvaez in general as a cool accomplishment if he gets there.

      Am not arguing whether Chavez beat better fighters. I just think it's a BS number for some fighters who beat a bunch of washed up former "champions." The very word "champion" in boxing has been bastardized for decades by the expansion of alphabet belts. Again, is Cuadras beating Jaro somehow more meaningful that Narvaez beating the guy who beat Jaro last year simply because Jaro briefly held an alphabet belt?

        No, but Jaro is an extreme example. he's a career journeyman who caught a shot near great on the right night. It's a quasi-useful indicator of pop strength but like anything only tells part of a story. Histaka and Jaro are both ho hum wins for most.
