Haven't you figured it out yet? Lacy was the golden boy and saviour of boxing and packed "THE" punch but it didn't count for ****. You can wait 36 minutes for Tarver to drop Calzaghe but in the mean time he'll have to contend with a relentless onslaught of fast and furious happy slapping
Tarver vs Cali would be a very technical fight. This won't be the likes of Lacy vs Cali. Tarver knows his game and knows his strenghts and will stick to it.
I don't really like Tarver that much but you have to admit the guy has serious skills. He has fast hands, KO power, is extremely cautious, and he has the reach advantage over Cali. I also think that the power department might be too much for Cali to take.
The intangibles are like this.
Tarver's game is a southpaw who has excellent counter-punching skills. He has KO power and he won't be like a green Lacy who will simply bullrush his opponent trying to throw bombs. Tarver's game is EXTREMELY BORING, but it is effective and in no way should Cali try to toy with Tarver as he will get tagged.
Cali's best chance of beating Tarver is to sustain a systematic and calculated pressure. He has to throw Tarver off-balance by pressuring him with bursts using his speed and arguably better handspeed. Using the jab more followed by lateral movement is also a good option for Cali. Standing in front of Tarver is a bad idea. Cali has to push the pace and always keep Tarver off-balance.
I thought Calzaghe had fallen off quite a bit, so a week ago, I would've said Tarver in a one-sided decision. Now, I see it as a close fight. The only problem is that Tarver's coming off 3 fights with a worn out Roy Jones, 2 with a not-so-young Glen Johnson, and getting ready to face Bernard Hopkins, who's in his forties. Tarver should beat Hopkins, and he'll say he beat the two guys that were at the top of the P4P rankings for years. Unfortunately for him, they didn't have as much gas in the tank as Calzaghe will. Calzaghe's 34, Tarver's 37... so if this is going down, they'd better do it soon.
The last thing I want is Antonio Tarver fighting for my country, I hate Tarver and want to see someone beat the piss out of him.
Watch Tarver's fights with Eric Harding and Reggie Johnson...Im telling you he has not really improved that much in the ring since then.
Tarver was afforded the luxury of fighting a FADED Roy Jones and I know a lot of people like Glenn Johnson around here myself included but the guy has limitations, how many times has he been beaten?
Tarver has never had a performance where I said, "wow the kid looked great" and in my opinion he never will.
...Yeah, Tarver is the last guy I would want representing the USA for sure.
This might be a step up for Joe jumping into 175lb fight with the Champ. Maybe he should fight a tune up and/or take on Clinton Woods first. This fight would mean little in this country but would be a HUGE payday in England.
Calzaghe, who broke his left hand around the seventh round, quickly said after the fight he wanted to face Tampa light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver, who will face Bernard Hopkins on June 10. It is a challenge Tarver said he would accept.
"Let me take care of my business on June 10 and then I'm going to get revenge on Calzaghe for what he did to my homeboy," Tarver said by phone Sunday. "Calzaghe has proven to be the best super middleweight in the world. He looked really good against Jeff and it's time for him to make more money than he's ever made before.
"I will get him back for Saturday night. It will be USA vs. the U.K. He's definitely in my sights. I think this is a fight that should be held in Madison Square Garden and on pay-per-view worldwide."
thoughts?
Tarver would ****,Traver camp ask Kessler to fight Traver and then Kessler say yes backed Tarver out
