    Roman Gonzalez:

The always humble Roman Gonzalez made an appearance on the spanish boxing show A Los Golpes, where he provided the public with some humble answers to some burning questions.

In regards to Estrada, Roman had nothing but good things to say. Telling the public the strengths of Estrada found within his ability to take as well as dish out punishment. Roman also sent his best wishes and regards to the unified champion as well as his camp in order to remain focused and achieve great heights in the sport.

After the interviewer compared Gonzalez to past greats such as Chiquita Gonzalez, Finito Lopez and Carbajal, he questioned the public and media's adoration for fighters such as Mayweather and their ridiculous price tags of millions of dollars, when they hardly ever provide what is expected. Instead fighters such as Gonzalez whom's skills are only matched by his power, strength, stamina, athleticism, etc. are often overlooked.

Gonzalez answered by stating his awareness over the fact that the US has very little knowledge over the smaller weights. However, Japan is where the lower weights are widely recognised and his team has taken him their in order to strive. As well as get paid handsomely he stated, with a humble smile Roman has come to be known for.

When questioned over what are the negotiations and requirements having to be met in order for a rematch with Estada to go down, Roman said with a smile, "To tell you the truth I don't negotiate over the fights. The people whom are in charge of my career(promoters) are the ones whom deal with that matter. After they settle the business aspect they provide me with a set amount and once I agree the fight is on. My main focus is in the gym and training, if the purse is good then good, the fight is on. However if the purse doesn't sit well with me I say no to the fight."

In regards to Estrada's best qualities as a fighter Roman restated his ability to take punishment and push through the fight. He is always very well fit and well conditioned. Roman said he would love for things to work out and give the fans of the sport a fight they deserve, and hopefully he can show up in spectacular form, as well as Juan in order to do so. Not only is it one of his dream fights but he would like for them to garner recognition in the US with the rematch, so both of them can reach new heights and further unify the division.

When guest host Abner Mares asked him if Estrada was the hardest fight he had, Roman quickly answered with Akira's name in order to provide the panel with his most difficult opponent to date.

In a segment called "Against the Ropes", they asked roman the following questions:

Q: Which is the most spectacular division in boxing?

A:The 112 pound division. It's a very good division where the fighters clash with each other and go toe to toe.

Q:At this moment, who is the best fighter at the 112 lbs division?

A:"EL Gallo" Estrada. There is no one that beats him there.

    - cut off by interviewers-
but but you're there, so there's no one that beats him? What about you?

    R.Gonzalez with a smile - No no, I prefer him. I can't say myself, I prefer him.

Q:Will Chocolatito be the best Nicaraguen boxer in history?

A:After Alexis Arguello, yes. At this moment, yes. Now, in history I'm second to Arguello.

Q: Who is the best PFP fighter at the moment?

A:Floyd Mayweather. Even if he doesn't risk in fights he is number 1. Some people might like his style others might not, but we respect it. He is the best and that is his style.

Well guys, I know a'lot of you wouldn't understand the interview on the show since it's in spanish and I wouldn't want you to have missed out. Enjoy.

Thanks for sharing bro. Good interview from the champ.

I don't believe him for a second when he states Estrada is unbeatable at 112. He comes off as a really humble fighter so that's expected, but he's got to be very confident about beating him again.

Hopefully they get what they deserve financially and we get to Estrada/Gonzalez in the ring again.

Yeah, I have read an interview where he said he would beat Estrada on the rematch easily.

By the way thanks to Tyson Chavez for introducing me to the site. Good source for spanish speaking folks to keep updated on what's going on with the sport south of the border.

This is an interview in his home country. Go to around 1:10 where he is singing a different tune. Where he says he beats Estrada much easier in the rematch. Also says he see's him much slower although he looks stronger. Interesting to say the least.

Gracias carnal! Great share. For now Estrada is El Mero-Mero at 112 with his string of Viloria/Melindo/Mepranum/Segura wins, so it's only right that Roman said he's the top dog. Roman was just being a gentleman though, I'm sure he believes that he's the best.

Hopefully we get the rematch next year, .

Yeah he seems very down to Earth. Alexis took him under his wing since he was a young child and taught him everything he knew. Roman is a product of a great properly passing on the torch.

No doubt, huge fan of Roman but I'm even a bigger fan or El Gallo de Mexico.

De nada hermano. De acuerdo, Estrada es el mas Gallo de las 112 libras.

I'm sure he believes he's the best as well, he proved it with other interviews in his home country recently. We have to also take into account where Roman was positioned at during the interview, amongst Mexicans. His greatest rival thus far being Mexican himself, Roman retained his humility and gave the adequate answer.

Hopefully the rematch goes down. I might be a bit too bold but I honestly believe in terms of skill and technique, Juan Francisco Estrada is Mexico's best champion PFP at the moment.
