According to Arum, Mayweather turned down the career-best purse to meet Margarito on Aug. 12 on HBO Pay-Per-View, instead opting for free agency by buying Arum out of their deal for $750,000...

Arum said Mayweather preferred to await the outcome of the May 6 Oscar De La Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga fight instead of committing to Margarito because he would prefer to fight De La Hoya...

Many in the sport believe a De La Hoya-Mayweather fight is the biggest fight on the horizon and the only one capable of generating 1 million-plus buys on pay-per-view.

The reason Mayweather opted for the buyout rather than waiting for the May 6 result was because the contract had a limited window for the buyout, one that expired before the De La Hoya fight. However, Arum said he would have extended the window if Mayweather had asked. What Arum wouldn't do, he said, was raise the guarantees for other fights outlined in the contract.

Arum said while Mayweather would have taken the $8 million to fight Margarito, he asked for a $10 million guarantee to fight opponents such as Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, when Arum was only willing to guarantee $7 million.

Arum said Mayweather also asked for $20 million to fight De La Hoya, a fight Arum said he wasn't interested in participating in.

"That's not in the cards," Arum said. "He wants $20 million for the De La Hoya fight? It's not there. Sometimes, my man, you gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.
We'll talk about things down the road."

The split frees Mayweather to make a potential deal with De La Hoya without Arum as part of the promotion. His involvement would have made making a deal almost impossible: The head of Top Rank has openly feuded with De La Hoya, his former superstar, and their companies rarely do business together as a result.

Arum said he was simply not interested in participating in a De La Hoya-Mayweather fight, but not because of his distaste for De La Hoya.

"I don't want to, because if I did that fight, I would be working for such a small percentage, it's not worth it," he said.

So Mayweather turned down $8 Million to fight Margarito, which then freed him to fight Oscar, which Arum had no intention of doing. WOW! Floyd turned down $8 Million to be in the highest selling PPV event in boxing history. I guess some will stay say he was ducking Margarito.
BRAVO MY MAN, ALTHOUGH YOU STATED FACTS THESE DUMBASSES WILL CONTINUE TO SPOUT BS. BUT BRAVO TO YOU BRINGING FACTS TO THE TABLE

    • What he should have said was Floyd got hit more then he normally does because the stats say Floyd hit Chino more than Chino hit Floyd so the statement of Floyd got hit a lot and Chino did not get hit a lot is incorrect.

I have not read the 11 plus pages of posts yet but I'm sure many of you have championed Pac's statement or twisted it to fit your agenda.

But then ya say, "TBE"... laughable.
"OLD ODH???" If he was old (34) when he fought Floyd @ 154, what was he when Manny fought him 18 months later, and at 147? Who would turn down a chance to fight Oscar back then, for a fight with Margarito. The hate is just blinding you now. That's not ducking, that's basic common sense.

i doubt it.. Stephen espinoza already said he wouldn't release any of floyd's ppv numbers anymore unless it broke a record. Absurd.
why is that?..are they losing money on his fights or something?

Thank you my man! You're right, they hate history because they can't erase it! They figure if they keep repeating the same BS, sooner or later, it will become truth.

They get so upset that Floyd keeps winning and they keep losing. Excuses excuses, Floyd turns guys into girls, hypocrites, and flat out liars. Maidana is gonna have nightmares about Floyd. Floyd just retired Maidana, took away his relevance and career. He embarassed him on a worldwide scale. He was so frustrated and mad (like alot of idiots on here) that he actually BIT floyd If you supposedly MADE floyd fight the way he fought in the first fight, why couldnt he make him fight that way again? this proves that Floyd chose to fight that way. He beat Chino in a Chino fight (dirty type of fight) and dominated him in a boxing match. Bye bye chino, good riddance you dirty MF. I hope your fine is 3mil like tysons was, and you fought for free. got ass beat, disappointed all 4 of your new fans. Now hopefully Floyd lets you borrow some money to pay your expenses, PSYCHE?

LMAOO! This made my day reading this. I got a real good laugh.

Ppl were really believing the hype that Floyd was SHOT. LOL!

                TBE = The Best Excuses
Nah Manny got knocked out because he fought undisciplined. You don't charge forward into your opponent without throwing punches. He ran head first into a KO like a true AMATUER.

That hasn't happened to Floyd because he's a smarter and better fighter. His record, accomplishments and financial revenue back my claim.

Floyd fans are happy seeing him coast against every flat footed plodder and crowning him ''TBE''.
Yet Manny would never step in the ring with Canelo. The excuses would be the size differential. However, Maweather is small too and he still stepped in and not only beat Canelo but EMBARASSED him. Do you remember Canelo's face after the fight? He looked like a lil baby that just dropped his ice cream cone on the cement. LOL!

I would love to see Manny in with Maidana. Manny gets KTFO!

Just like he got KTFO against another Floyd victim, JMM.

The only fighter that gives Floyd a true run for his money is SWIFT.

He didn't duck Cotto at 147. Where are you getting your info from? Oh yea, you're getting it from this site: www.talkoutofmyass.com.

Floyd wanted to fight Cotto back when Cotto made his initial entry in the WW division. Guess who stopped it??? ARUM. ARUM. ARUM. ARUM!!!!

BUt I do know for a FACT that Cotto ducked Paul Williams.

After Paul vacated his belt, Cotto swarmed in quick to fight Jennings for the vacated belt at WW. Yet Cotto would never fight P WILL while he was champ! Straight PUNK move by Top Rank and Cotto.

I bet Cotto will NEVER fight GGG at 160.

Oh yea, lets focus on Mayweather, one of the few fighters that actually does fight legitimate competition damn near every outing.

His last legitimate BUM fight was Bruseles at 140.
