Maybe the Canadian Press doesn't follow Iron Mike as closely as we do, but it's common knowledge over here that Tyson doesn't like to talk about the **** and that he clearly professes his innocence. The way the interviewer framed the question, "how is the mayor going to look standing next to a convicted rapist"
1) brought up the **** issue when it did not need to be revisited.
2) could have EASILY been rephrased with the quick-fix "considering all of the crazy things that you have been involved with over the years" and would have worked as a question.
3) Made it seem as if his **** conviction made it a given that he was indeed a rapist when in fact the court of public opinion has swayed in Tyson's favor over the years.
Calling a probably innocent person a rapist on a daytime news program with no forewarning is ****ed up and Tyson took him to task for that in only the way he could.
Tyson in his younger days didn't mind calling himself a convicted rapist, Mike is just overly sensitive these days as his image has changed from his sideshow days in the 90s. The interviewer had an agenda and wanted a reaction and got it.
Downer Was Waaaay Off Base! Tyson Has Done A Lot To Right His Wrongs
That deadbeat was nothing more seeking to act brave and be confrontational, as well as being mean spirited and injurious, then tried to move on yo other questions, knowing he instigated trouble, he embarrassed Tyson who has done a lot to be credible, pay his debts, be a good husband and father. Tyson has been very transparent with his past, his blowing money, failed marriages, troubles with Don King, drug and alcohol problems, and on and on. I give him great credit today; even he says he never believed he'd live this long. But the one area that has been very painful for him, was that moment with the beauty pageant contestant. For that news Anchor to call him out on his conviction then just move on to normal Q&A, then apologize to viewers for Tyson's language, after he instigated the embarrassing reminder, is journalism malpractice at best. Disgusting to hit Tyson with that; he ought to lose his job after making a formal on air apology.

You're a phukkin idiot too. Mike never called himself that then or today. He knows what he was convicted of and paid his debt. Don King set him up with a tax attorney to represent him, so no wonder it played out the way it did for Tyson. To this day Tyson still believes and shares in his heart he knows he didn't do those things and it was a consensual date they were on. The next morning he wouldn't walk her down to the limo, so she felt trashed and made him pay.
Bottom line, this news anchor was trying to make a name for himself. Thought he was being edgy, and wanted to test the waters to see how quick tempered Mike is or isn't today, on the heels of his meeting with a Mayor to talk boxing... The same Mayor who's entering for re-election.... No doubt this news anchor was trying to create bad press for Tyson that might then reflect negatively on this Mayor. Just ****** journalism. This news anchor should have to make a formal apology on air, then lose his job following. As hard as Tyson has worked to overcome drug and alcohol abuse, to re-create his imagine for his family and pay back all his debts to society, he didn't need to that type of questioning to do nothing more than to embarrass Mike.
What a dumb anchor. Setting aside that a dumbest way to make an interview is to start from insults, what about overall logic. If his is so concerned about how 'convicted rapist' would possibly hurt an image of a public figure, why he is not concerned about his news show giving publicity to a 'convicted rapist'.
