Did Calzaghe know how good he is?

Refusal to fight outside of europe, repeatedly pulling out of fights, less than top class competition and comments of retiring in the next 18 months.

On retiring in 18 months he says "it's all changed now", he's calling out Antonio Tarver, Roy Jones and talking about fighting in America.

Could it be, that until Saturday night, Joe Calzaghe never knew how good he really is???

The 168 class doesn't have the competition it had back in the early 90s. Joe was king of this weight class and really didn't have to leave the UK. Afterall, since he was making money in the UK so why would he go to the US where not a lot of people knew who he was?

Reminds me of Chris Eubank. *waits for JuyJuy*

I think you make an interesting point but I believe Joe and Enzo both always thought they were that good.

About the retire in 18 months thing...leading up to a fight training is a grueling thing and you have to ask yourself how much longer do I want to continue to do this when your in the process of doing it...but after you win a Super fight in the fashion Joe just did it in you have to feel like Superman-your refreshed and reenergized and you can take on the world.

Obviously Joe is on cloud nine right now!

One of the reason I have always loved Joe is because he is relentless.

****, most fighters would have been on cruise control after 8 rounds but not Joe...he came out for the 12th like the fight was on the line...he will never cheat you when he is in the ring!

I don't think he knew. He told Showtime ppl that he wasn't having a good day and he never really talked about winning the fight. At least now he is not the only one who knows how good he is.

The problem I have with Joe Calzaghe is that he has yet to show consistency. You don't know which Joe will show up, the mediocre Joe or the brilliant Joe. Two nights ago, the flawless Joe showed up and we found out what he can do at his best.

Unreal, he's undefeated, champion for 9 years and he's beaten the so called best Super Middle and still theres questions!

Any fighter who fights for 13 years especially with injury problems will have off nights, the poor fighters lose on those off nights, the great fighters find a way to win, thats what Joe did!
