  • Comments Thread For: Broner Edging Closer To The Point of No One Cares

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - First things first, Adrien Broner can fight.

He’s got quick hands. He moves well. And as he showed in Saturday night’s competitive – but clear – victory over Emmanuel Taylor, he’s got a flair for the spectacular when it comes to closing a show.

That may not mean anything when it comes to a would-be match with Lucas Matthysse that he went public about with Jim Gray, but it does reflect that reality that he deserves some respect for his game.

Thing is, he’d probably get it from a few more folks if he’d only shut his mouth once in a while.

Love the guy or loathe him, the fact that he’d won belts in three weight classes as a 23-year-old – and has since put himself in position to challenge for a fourth at age 25 – puts him either in or along the perimeter of an elite class of fighters who’ll be populating premium cable fight cards for years to come.

But that doesn’t mean anyone is going to like it.

The “Problem’s” latest dose of signature nonsense came before, during and after the scrap with Taylor.

First with a weigh-in choke, then with a juvenile hip shake after the final-round knockdown and lastly with both the dumber-every-time-it-happens hair-brushing scene and another over-the-line assertion that he knew Taylor would be tough because he was African-American, as apparently opposed to the far less-qualified Mexican that he “beat the **** out of” on the Mayweather-Maidana show in May. It's not that no one cares, it's that we're not blind, and we're not dumb: we can see that he's not as good as promotional networks wanted him to be. Now he runs around trying to salvage his persona, and it's going to catch up to him again. He's a step or two under the top- level, obviously.

Adrien Broner is a 3 division champion who's biggest win is against Pauli Malignaggi. Since he's been champion he's fought Escovedo, Perez, Demarco,Gavin Rees and lost to Maidana. None of these fighters that Broner has beat have fought against any other world champions in their careers. The exception was Demarco who was getting beat up by Jorge Linares till the fight was stopped due to cuts. Broner has struggled at 147 and looked really average against a ESPN fighter who could have won if he threw more combos. Its clear to me that Broner has more ego than skill just check the facts.

Typical Brutha Fool Out Of The Hood

Get too much money in their pocket and they play the gangster, foul mouth fool. You can take the Brutha out if the ghetto, but often you can't take the ghetto out of the brutha. It's funny how you never saw Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Shane Mosley ever act that way. Now today you have fools like Mayweather & Boner that act the fool, and they think they're entertaining.

The way I see it right now.. He's actually stepping over the usual line he sets. For instance, calling out Matthyse and paying higher respects to the men that was there before Al Haymon on National Tv.

Lyle seems upset and instead seems to ignore it's not Matthyse that wants to fight, it's Broner. When Broner lets his hands go and not be defensive, that's when he is at his best and he hurts everyone he hits, he's just not active and committed to offense as he should. His offense should be his defense, because when he cracked several fighters such as Maidana, they back off.

Broner has fast hands, but he sure as hell doesn't move well, he's cement footed.

He has already hit his ceiling. It wasn't very high.

As much as I don't like Broner, I still gotta give him credit for not ducking opponents. He even let the fans choose his opponent after the Paulie fight to prove he's not cherrypicking and was even okay with Keith Thurman wanting to fight him (though fortunately for him, Maidana knocked some sense into him before he got THAT kind of beating). Now he wants to fight Matthysse? Can't argue with that.

Broner is a straight up Turd and its gonna be fun watching him crash hard because of his idiotic mouth and act. He doesnt have near the talent to survive long and his mouth has already written way too many checks
