Depends. And I'd dare say neither of us know enough to make that judgement on what we saw last night.
One of my favorite back and forth's between George and Larry occurred during Hopkins-Trinidad. George was admonishing Hop for going toe to toe. "Don't go back to Philadelphia too soon!" Larry responded, "George, many great boxers have come out of Philadelphia. You couldn't survive the famous gym wars if you didn't know how to box." Beatings to the head over time can shorten lives, not just careers. But this is the sport they've chosen. Brutal gym wars are a part of that, for better or worse.Comment

All I would ask have you been to Kronk or any of the other gyms in Detroit, Flint or Grand Rapids.
There are some gyms in Oakland County where you would never see things like this but those places will never turn out a pro fighter.Comment

Let's not forget there's more than one side to boxing...they didnt??!! u have never heard the stories of kronk gym wars???! u have never heard about james toney's legendary sparring sessions? tommy hearns knocking dudes out cold? roger mayweather beating the **** out of dudes? seriously...im done. good luck with your suburbia gym membership. enjoy it, learn some real boxing.
As quoted from Angelo Dundee
"I don't believe in wars in the gym, I believe in longevity."
You guys talking Kronk and how they produce fighters their way, but should we take a look at the fighters Dundee has produced as well?Last edited by SlySlickSmooth; 09-07-2014, 10:43 AM.Comment

Manny Steward held to that as well. Only he believed that was a case once a fighter was fully matured. Everyone has a different take on it.Comment

That is true also there is no one set way for anyone to the top but normally a fighter will find their way to a gym that matches up with what works best for them.Comment

When Larry was on his game he gave great insight.Depends. And I'd dare say neither of us know enough to make that judgement on what we saw last night.
