Segura has been on a blazing comeback after losing to Sosa. Stopping Gonzalez, Marquez and Salguero on his way back and now stepping up to Estrada is a serious string of opposition he has taken on. He is no way borderline irrelevantYaegashi was a great win and in a spectacular fashion but that win wouldn't trump both Segura and Viloria at 112.
coming into the fight last saturday he was ranked number 10 by the ring . he'll probably drop off the list after the loss .... being outside of the top 10 is borderline irrelevance imo .

Yaegashi was the lineal champion , these two weren't .
Yaegashi vanquished sosa , these two didn't .
gonzalez also beat estrada , so the notion that gonzalez should beat number 10 segura and number 4 viloria to be considered " the man " is ridiculous .

and why is that ?

Yaegashi's win has nothing to do with Gonzalez or Estrada whatsoever. Sure Sosa beat Viloria, seven years ago. He beat Segura but after doing so Segura bounced back in an impressive fashion by winning his following 3 fights. Again, what does Yaegashi's win over Sosa have to do with any of this? Triangle theories don't apply. Simply because Gonzalez beat Yaegashi whom defeated Sosa, who beat both Segura and Viloria whom lost to Estrada sounds ******.
Gonzalez also beat Estrada at 108, this is 112. That victory has no leverage in terms of rankings at this weightclass. Aside from beating Yaegashi what other names would put Gonzalez above Estrada since he began his 112 campaign? Estrada has Viloria, Segura and Melindo on his. Viloria being the champion he dethroned, Melindo a previously undefeated contender whom Estrada handed his first loss, and Segura who was making a case for himself until this past weekend.

He blasted out Gonzalez in a manner no one expected. He blasted out Hernan Marquez who was a live dog, and although Salguero isn't much of a name, their fight said alot about both fighters. Segura might not be the most technically gifted, but he has enough power and heart to give anyone a run for their money once he connects.
.
prior to this past saturday segura was ranked number 10 , was 32 , and just last year lost against a declining , 35 year old contender .
why is it so absurd to call him borderline irrelevant ?

Yaegashi's win over sosa solidified his postion as the top dog in the division and ahead of the likes of segura .
a win over him weigh more than a win over segura .

but that's irrelevant since he did beat akira, and that makes him the TOP dog at 112 ahead of estrada.

So you bash Segura for losing to Sosa, the same guy that made Yaegashi the top dog at the weight?
Beating Gonzalez was a major upset, although he was a prospect everyone thought Segura was done for and was brought in to PR as a sacrificial lamb to the young up and comer. The same man you claim is irrelevant is the same man that Sosa beat in order for him to receive your high regards, which in turn you give Yaegashi his just due and thus you label Roman the top dog. Tell me, how is that no triangle theories?
Beating Akira did get him a belt at the class but beating Estrada would make him "the top dog" at the weight. Atleast, that's they way I see it and my personal opinion.

.
the outcome of segura vs sosa decided who'd still be relevant in the division . let's face it , two former champs on the decline , in their 30's in a young man's division .... losing that fight would've constituted a major setback for either of them imo .

akira was the lineal champion , estrada was a contender with two straps .
beating akira didn't just get him " a belt " , it got him THE belt .
you have to beat the man to be the man ,and viloria wasn't the man .
i'd like to see gonzalez vs estrada II too btw .

Most likely my last post regarding the matter.
You say Sosa vs Segura was a fight for relevancy, correct? Tell me... what did Sosa accomplish after beating Segura? Was Segura's following 3 victories(by KO none the less) against 2 significant names and a tune up before Estrada irrelevant since he lost to Sosa? Didn't Sosa lose in the following fight? So who is more irrelevant now, according to your rating system? It seems to me the victor suffered the worst set back out of the two since Segura was able to recoup and garner himself enough attention to be given a title shot.
Viloria was THE man, he was just unable to capture the Ring title. His resume at 112 spoke for itself, his destruction of Estrada's fellow countrymen spoke for itself, he earned his titles and defended them the hard way. In fact, Viloria wasn't supposed to lose that fight. Akira is a great fighter and Gonzalez will go down in history. However, his victory over Yaegashi does not trump Estrada's over all resume at 112. I would more or less agree on them both being on equal footing.
I just don't understand how you could regard one win over a good fighter above 2 wins of the same caliber in the same weight class. Forget about the belts for a second and be honest, Resume's alone, how does Gonzalez beat Estrada's resume at 112 as it stands right now?
