Comments Thread For: Top Rank VP Not Surprised That Quillin Dropped Title

On Thursday, Peter Quillin (31-0, 22KOs) announced that he was vacating the World Boxing Organization's middleweight title. He was scheduled, at least on paper, to face mandatory challenger Matt Korobov (24-0, 14KOs) on November 8th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

On August 18th, Roc Nation Sports - the sports management company founded by rapper Jay Z - blew away the competition at WBO purse bid to secure the promotional rights to Quillin-Korobov.

On the surface this looks like a bad move by Quillin. But at the same time Q has Haymon backing him so that tells me he's fighting someone like Jacobs or Cotto. Neither guy has an opponent on the books at the moment. It's really the only reasonable explanation. I refuse to believe a professional fighter is really as pvssy as he portrays himself to be.

He turned down 1.4 mil in a very winnable fight. Decorate that however you want red-bar.

Hes a coward, we all knew it and him and everyone who advises him knew he his champion status was a fluke and was on borrowed time.

                This sums up 2014 perfectly:

"It doesn't make sense [that he would give up $1.4 million], but based on what we've seen happening over the last year - nothing makes sense, nothing is logical, everything is illogical. It's just another example of where a lot of things stand and not for the good of the sport."

Rid**** Bowe dumped his belt in the trash can........But it was Lennox Lewis

Manny Pacquiao refused to take a blood test.....But it was Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather requested drug testing that had never been done in history.....but it was Manny Pacquiao

Adonis Stevenson ran to another network with his tail between his legs.....But it was Sergei Kovalev

The MWs acted like the best fighter in the division doesn't exist.........But was GGG

The 122's act like the best fighter in the division doesn't exist.........But it is Rigo

But here, you have a guy that turned down $1.4 million against an unproven prospect that looks like he ran the Boston Marathon after 4 rounds. He gave up his paper strap, the only thing that made him relevant in the sport of boxing to avoid a 4 round fighter. People say "But he has Jacobs lined up. He shouldn't risk losing that fight." What risk? Korobov can barely get up off of his stool after the 5th round.

This is some *****made **** from a *****made fighter. I usually respect fighters because not everybody can get in that square circle but Peter Quillin is a hoe and he's been hiding from legit competition for years now.

At least he will no longer be babysitting that title that kept him relevant.
