Do title belts matter in boxing?

They matter to the fighters who need them as leverage to get fights. Golovkin needs his belts, otherwise no one has any reason to fight him. Rigondeaux, too.

If you bring money, the alphabet belts don't matter as much because everyone will want to fight you.

They matter financially for the fighters.

They don't matter in the sense that they represent accomplishment. But if you do have one, I hope you try to act like a champion.

TV networks like showing title fights, so obviously they matter.

However Quillan is an embarrassment and a great example of what is wrong with boxing in 2014. But I'm pretty sure that his next fight will be for an even more diluted version of the same title. Sure hope he loses to the Al Haymon "advised" opponent.
