  • Comments Thread For: Team Cotto: Miguel's Next Fight at Comfortable Weight

Speculation ran all summer long as to who would be the lucky contestant to land a shot at lineal middleweight king Miguel Cotto. A date (December 13) and venue (Madison Square Garden in New York City) was set aside for Cotto’s return following his shockingly one-sided 9th round stoppage of Sergio Martinez this past June. All that was needed was an opponent, and means which to sufficiently prepare for the fight.

The latter proved to be too big a hurdle to overcome.

If I were Cotto, I'd get the biggest name I could to move up to 154-155. Tim Bradley, Marquez, etc...

If I can't get a comfortable opponent at the weight then I'd just wait for Canelo at 155 and pick up a monster pay day...no sense in fighting a stay-busy fight against a Clottey-Trout type who Cotto will dominate and get no credit for...

Agreed... Cotto better stay in shape tho... don't want to be rusty when he faces Canelo In May.

          Why not Trout?

Cotto vs Trout would have been good in December. Cotto would have avenged his loss to Trout by knocking him out. Canelo cracked Trout's chin, since then Lara dropped him and Dawson dropped him like 3 times.

It makes sense to postpone the fight 4-6 weeks to get Miguel the right time with Roach. I'm thinking he may fight Molina now to secure a belt at 154. This also allows him to better negotiate with Mayweather. To me that fight is more important to him than Canelo.

That would be horrible for him... also if it happens, it can't happen in the U.S... so count Molina out
Cotto already has Rios and Marquez calling him out....watch it be Rios. Doubt it though since it'd be on regular HBO and he's the MOney is right guy

Proof that Roach is the ONLY coach that matters. You think any fighter with Cotto's momentum would sit out waiting for Garcia or that Kool-Aid drinking Rueben Guererro ducking slurring child abandoning idiot Mayweather Sr?
