I think they are both good fights.
[POLL] Better Match - Broner vs. Taylor or Matthysse vs. Ortiz?
Collapse
-
As she tends to do, Tunney/Freedom 2014 immediately put me on her ignore list when I questioned her opinion.
This time it was over whether Roberto Ortiz was actually a better opponent than Emmanuel Taylor.
Now admittedly, I haven't really seen either of them fight so I can't give a fully informed opinion. However, it seems quite clear that Broner-Taylor is the better match-up on paper. I've actually heard of Taylor's last three opponents.
Roberto Ortiz is undefeated with a bunch of knockouts but they're all against truck drivers that no one has ever heard of.
Which do you think is the better match-up? I have no one on ignore so this will give a fair reflection of what everyone thinks.
Vote and discuss
we know what to expect in taylor, a solid fighter who wont be easy work for anyone but shouldnt be a real threat to a fighter of broners caliber. if he upsets him it would be bad for broner but if broner wins in style it would be impressive. if he wins in similar fashion as the molina fight its just another fight.
ortiz may be the real deal or perhaps if he fought at the level taylor has he would do far worse. but i reckon given matthysses popularity people will say he is a beast regardless of how he performs.Comment

You could have a fight between two club fighters and it might be more exciting than Broner-Taylor will be. Doesn't make it a better match-up.Comment

Not surprised Ortiz received 3x as many votes
A guy no one has seen fight, never fought anyone relevant, and was put on his ass by a nobody seems like logical reasoning.
Matthysse is going to walk through this guy.Comment

The Matthysse vs Ortiz fight
Taylor has no power and isn't getting a decision. Its very clear to me at least that fight will be competitive and predictable with Taylor bagging a few earlier rounds and Broner getting stronger down the stretch. Broner UD
Ortiz by eye-test looks a lot better fight than Taylor. Lucas and Massa have big power so its a far more intriguing match for me at least. Ortiz is simply a more dangerous opponent.
Hes very big, he has skills, he is undefeated and done everything right thus far.
I haven't seen much of him but I can tell you he is no mug.
When you have the power of Matthysse though its very possible he could potentially walk through this guy and if he does Massa will get heralded a bum by NSB.
I'll take the high unknown risk over what I think is a predictable drama free routine check.Comment

This is Ortiz's step up fight, he's still pretty much an unknown commodity. Some are convinced that Matt's punch resistance is fading, and if Ortiz can take a punch, then we might have a FOTYC on our hands.
Taylor has fought Mayfield/Algeri, but I wasn't impressed with his performances. Broner was able to survive against Maidana, and unless his chin has been permanently dented, Taylor won't have the power to stop him. It's VERY unlikely that he'll beat him by decision in his hometown.
The match-ups are on a similar level. Ortiz has more fights and a greater KO% while Taylor has fought the better competition. I expect Matts/Ortiz to be more entertaining though.Comment
