I can see Kovalev going back home to Russia (maybe fight in Moscow) to have a big fight, he said his profile greatly increased there after the Hopkins fight.
Duva had planned for him to fight over there after Agnew but he suffered two deep cuts in that fight.

I figured a poorly disguised stab at Ward was the root of this thread. This confirms it.
You can hate Ward all day but the fact remains, no one without an agenda that saw the Ward/Froch or Ward/Kessler fight can honestly believe either Froch or Kessler could ever beat Ward. EVER!Comment

A true champion travels. As someone else mentioned, past American greats left and won outside America.I figured a poorly disguised stab at Ward was the root of this thread. This confirms it.

If you don't have a fanbase, its a good idea.
A lot of the American contenders/champions can't sell tickets.
Can Anthony Dirrell draw more than 500 people to any event? No
Shawn Porter, 1000? Probably not.
Even Adrien Broner, who is quite well known, could only sell like 6,000 tickets in freaking Cincinnati while Golovkin sold almost 10,000 in LA, thousands and thousands of miles from his homeland.
Traveling earns respect and can create new fans and open a fighter to new markets..Some fighters do understand this but some just don't want to take the risk.Comment

Wrong: back in 2007, Ward traveled a long way to the beautiful island of Saint Lucia (which somehow belongs to the defunct British Empire)... There, Andre Ward managed to KO the dangerous Roger Cantrell (who, at the time, held a record of 12-0; 8 KOs).
Do not misinform the general public!
(later edit: it's true that Ward was no title holder back then, but whatever.)Last edited by MDPopescu; 01-22-2015, 11:49 AM.Comment

Read my opening post more carefully. That fight wasn't for a title.Wrong: back in 2007, Ward traveled a long way to the beautiful island of Saint Lucia (which somehow belongs to the defunct British Empire)... There, Andre Ward managed to KO the dangerous Roger Cantrell (who, at the time, held a record of 12-0; 8 KOs).

And it was a quick stoppage, Ward threw a flurry of feathery punches. So the ref must have been shady in Ward's favor even though the fight happened on an offshore Island.Comment
