For me it's Francisco Rodriguez Jr. by a wide margin. He unified the I.B.F. and W.B.O. Minimumweight titles in a F.O.T.Y. candidate against Katsunari Takayama. I don't think it's possible to beat that.
Kell Brook's win over Shawn Porter was impressive, but not quite as good as Rodriguez Jr.'s performance IMO.
I guess Brook is winning the poll by a landslide because Welterweight is historically one of the most significant divisions in boxing, whereas nobody cares about Minimumweight,

I'd be interested to hear the basis of one of the three who voted for Kovalev. Other than just being a fan of his.Comment

He easily stopped a prime, undefeated opponent in round two. That was impressive.
I realize we've come to expect it by now, but for me it's better than Mayweather going 12 rounds and winning a MD over an overmatched opponent. I'd be interested in why people chose him a few months ago, other than just being a fan of his.
Three who stand out in August are Kovalev, Medina (who also stopped a prime, undefeated opponent) and Brook, who weathered the storm and won a title in a foreign country.
But perhaps the most deserving however was Francisco Rodriguez Jr, who unified two minimumweight titles. He hasn't been given much attention because of the division he fights in.Comment

the referee didn't score it as a knockdownOriginally posted by Freedom2014No, round 12 was 10-8.
I was rooting for Larghetti, I never liked Huck much because he's a dirty fighter. But I scored it 114-113 for Huck.
and in this case, the judge cannot award a knockdown at his or her own discretion since the referee deemed the knockdown to have happened after the final bell had rung..........
none of the 3 judges scored a knockdownComment

Why is Kell Brook getting more votes for his slow waltz than Francisco Rodriguez Jr for his Fight of the Year unification?Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 08-31-2014, 04:39 PM.Comment
