all boxers take a step back, or to the side to get away from contact. t hey're idiots if they're unwilling to do that.

when you take several steps away from contact constantly, you're probably a runner.

I would say that's the best analogy. Like I said I can't justify Lara's inactivity in the second half of the fight. What bothers me is when guys accuse fighters of running when they were simply moving out of the way then throwing punches. Algieri and rigo accusations annoy me more than Lara accusations because Algieri and rigo clearly landed more and utilised all of the ring. Lara seemed unable to use the center of the ring properly and kept ending up with his back to the ropes. Which to me isn't ring generalship.

The best latest example is Lara/Canelo. Lara showed up for a track meet instead of a boxing match.

Look at present floyd, he stays in the pocket while slipping punches and counters back....what lara did against canelo is straight up running! I have no other way to put it.

The annoying thing is Lara used good lateral movement and moved to canelo's left. He had his lead foot outside canelo's yet did nothing. As a southpaw this offends me!

Playing keep away in the ring without throwing many punches. Ali threw a ton of punches fighting backwards therefore he wasn't a runner.

What Lara did against Alvarez was called running for me, What Rigo and Algeriea did is called boxing to me, my thing is if you are going to do the "Lara school of boxing" please dont whine when you dont get the decision at the end of the fight.

If someone outmoves his opponent and lands more punches then he has won the round. When Algieri fought Provo he landed way more punches but people just said "look at his face who would you have rather been?" Well let's apply this logic to rigo vs donaire. Rigo outlanded donaire and badly marked his face but some still said he was running despite donaire being hesitant to throw anything. If you were Algieri would you just plant your feet and stand still against a known puncher? No, you would move around and disrupt him with potshots and some combinations.

With the Lara canelo fight (which I believe canelo only just won) people claimed Lara was running when in fact he was using lateral movement. When pacquiao did this against rios I saw no complaints at all.

The main point I'm trying to make is if you were really scared of your opponent you wouldn't get in the ring with him. This isn't a bar fight where only one is left standing, this is boxing. I like all action fights as much as I like boxing chess matches but now if seems like you can't even sidestep without being called a runner.
Well, I have always categorized it as someone who utilizes practically nothing apart from defensive footwork and is constantly moving whilst offering almost zero offensively.
