Cotto don't want to fight GGG, that's cool no problem we all know that's a mismatch and Cotto has earned his stripes to look out for himself. The problem is blaming it on finances and businees decisions.
Sounds better than "just the thought of fighting Golovkin makes Cotto's knees buckle," I suppose.
There's no misunderstanding Roach. From their standpoint they can play the card, "it doesn't make financial sense ", and so we can wait a couple more years then get Cotto closer to 40, further past his prime, then lure him in with GGG and get him hurt and severely knocked out, then everyone can cry how far past his best years Cotto was. When you are Champion, not every fight needs to make financial sense. Sometimes you take out guys in your division to clean house. Cotto's problem is he can't beat Canelo. He wasn't strong enough to beat a young primed Trout. He best up a shot, 40 year old Sergio Martinez, and he won't get past a young, primed Canelo, who beat down that same primed Trout. Cotto ONLY had a few choice fights due to perfect match ups that fell in place for him, and got him where he's at with a '54 & '60 belt. No matter how good he looked with a shot Sergio, he's going to bite off more than he can chew with Canelo who loves a war. Cotto will go to the bank handsomely, but he's going to take a beating.
His second problem is that with the best at '54 in Canelo, he takes a bigger, quicker beating if he ever gets in the ring with Gennady. He has no shot with GGG, but he has a lesser chance than no chance the longer he waits.
