Freddie Roach, who trains WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 32KOs), sees absolutely no upside in fighting WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) - at least for the moment.
After Cotto defends his title for the first time, on a tentative date of December 13th at New York's Madison Square Garden, Roach wants him to face Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 32KOs).
Cotto-Canelo is arguably the biggest fight in boxing outside of a mega-match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Whether you want to believe its fear, ducking, cherry picking or whatever floats your boat. Roach is right. Why the hell would Little Cotto want to fight the hardest hitting true Middleweight for less than Canelo or Floyd2 or anyone else that can give him the same amount for less threat.
For our entertainment? I say half these so called fans don't even appreciate what Cotto has done now...they won't ever give him credit so make money and retire.
Ward's team: we'll claim we will fight you at 168, although we have made not one single offer, even though we are the A side
GGG's team: when you're done playing People's Court with your promoter and want to present a serious offer (like Top Rank did for the Chavez fight) then let us know. Meanwhile I'll be fighting 3 times this year while you are sitting on your sofa writing checks to your lawyer
