can you imagine what cotto's people would have done if floyd refused to let him use the gloves in the contract ?

floyd mayweather and his people bullied maidana into wearing different gloves to gain an advantage. it was a close fight in spite of floyd's advantage. he put a natural puncher with gigantic hands into a foam glove that barely fit.


glovegate happened. it's a huge scar on floyd's legacy.

Why didn't floyd let maidana use the same NSAC approved red punches gloves that his own stablemates used that very same night?

A fighter, if he is good/great, should be able to win with any gloves. ODLH picked Mayweather's gloves for their fight and Mayweather still won the fight. If Maidana was capable of beating Mayweather, he would have done it regardless of the gloves he was wearing.

"I lost because of the gloves" is about as lame of an excuse as "I lost because my opponent ran during the fight." Both are used by fighters with limited skills.

A lot of people thought ODLH Won that fight. But your right, the gloves should not win you a fight, if it is a blow out. but there was a reason Floyd refused the gloves. He knew it might be close, and with softer gloves He had a better chance of winning a decision, and less chance of getting hurt, or stopped. I'm not saying that would happen, because it never has, but less chances. And I believe Floyd feels that He's slipping a little, so why take a chance.
