Shouldn't Donaire-Walters be the main event?

They will show up for the new sensation.

Donaire has produced some of the most spectacular knockouts in boxing history. Walters has 20 KOs in 24 fights.

In general I wouldn't have a problem with GGG headlining but he is taking on another weak opponent who doesn't stand an iceball's chance in hell in being competitive. Why am I being fed another GGG mismatch? I derive no entertainment from one sided 3 round beatdowns vs. sub-par comp.

Donaire-Walters is an all-action, 50/50 fight. It should be the main event.

He was schooled by Rigo, yes, but at least before that he cleaned out a pretty strong JR Featherweight division which is bigger achievment than everything that Golovkin did in his pro carreer so far... The reson why Golovkin is the headliner is not because Donaire is a noname **** but he is declined since the Rigo fight and right now financially Golovkin > Donaire. But try not to pretend that Golovkin achieved morein his carreer than Donaire.

The middleweight division is one of the weakest in boxing. GGG should move up to 168 where he can fight Ward, Froch, Dirrell, or Kessler.

Rubio is a bum. He's been KO'd in one round by a junior middleweight, he was forced to quit while crying his eyes out vs. Pavlik, and he was outclassed by JCC Jr. of all people. He fights tomato cans after every loss he takes to get back in the rankings.

Rubio does not belong in the ring vs. any MW champion.

I think they're (HBO/Arum/whoever's in charge) done building up Donaire. Donaire has been in 3G's position, where he fought Nishioka in 2012 while Rios/Alvarado (much better match-up) was on the under-card. GGG is the one that HBO is building up now.

Donaire has struggled his whole career against simple, basic fighters who don't lunge themselves forward. He's never looked great against them and always had excuses every single time he couldn't mount an effective and consistent offense. Fast forward to today and he's even gone even further off into inconsistency - I mean he was losing to old Vic... and someone thinks he should headline? Donaire isn't even entertaining and his skills are subpar, all he has is those flashes of hand speed.

Last time Donaire headlined the Stub Hub Center was vs Nishioka and people were either booing or walking out of the arena because Alvarado vs Rios had just ended and the Donaire fight was an absolute stinker. GGG is hot right now! He may not be proven but he always brings the KO, he is willing to fight anyone and champions with names who he can prove himself against are avoiding him like the plague. He is not fighting journey men for the hell of it like your typical Al Haymon fighter where everyone wants a crack at them but they are too busy taking tune up fights just because they can. GGG is fighting the best fighters in a small group of guys that are actually willing to fight him. He already has sold every 100 dollar ticket in the house for this fight and is a few seats away from selling out every 200 dollar ticket. Hell, if you check AXS.com right now very few tickets seem to be left in the 25 dollar and 50 dollar price ranges so I am positive the fight will sell out well before the event even takes place. I have been too multiple fights at the stub hub center and I believe that California fight fans do not just show up to watch Mexicans fight, they show up because they are very educated fight fans and they like action fighters! The only fight I can remember selling out at the Stub Hub Center was Maidana vs Lopez and that sold out the day of the fight. Even the beer was sold out before the main card even started on Showtime. If you look at past crowds at fights at the stub center like Brooke vs Porter, Guerrero Kamegai, Bradley vs Provodnikov, and Chavez vs Vera the place looked empty. The fact that GGG is moving tickets compared to recent super stars who have fought at the the Stub Hub center before him says a lot about the hype that surrounds him. So to answer your question, GGG is headlining because his promoters know what they are doing with his career and Donaire vs Walters would not draw anywhere in the World besides maybe Jamaica.
