Comments Thread For: Miguel Vazquez: I Felt I Beat Canelo The First Time

Most fans don't know this, but IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (34-3, 13KOs) made his pro debut against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. He fought Canelo not once - but twice.

The first time around in 2006, Canelo was 2-0 going into the fight and won a very close four round split decision. Vazquez believes he was robbed by the judges. They had a rematch two years later, and Canelo [19-0 at that point] won a ten round unanimous decision.

That's not saying much. Canelo was like 12 years old.

That's great to know, I'm glad you felt you won a 4 rounder. Enjoy irrelevancy.

I'm sick of this guy. Beat no one, turned down big fights (Gamboa, Burns, Broner), yet somehow passes himself off as the "most avoided man". And it's hip to like him in harcore boxing circles.

Canelo has so many fights where he got the benefit of the doubt on the scorecards. Star power at work I guess.
