This is a bizarre move on Team Maidana's part. It makes, like, 20 percent sense. If Marcos makes more money by faking like he won't fight, fine. But if not.... it makes no sense. Marcos has pretty obviously said he only wants to fight Floyd and no one else. Does this mean he would just quit boxing? And isn't he indirectly saying that he doesn't think he will win without his gloves?
They earned the rematch by fighting great. They let the baby have his bottle and fought a great fight. I think the fans were cheated some amount of carnage that we'll never really know by Maidana not wearing his MX gloves but what I'll never get are the lack of Floyd fans who like or love Marcos(and vice versa, I guess) and the lack of response from Floyd fans to the fight. The fight was more drama filled than all the other big fights of the year!!(IMO, Floyd v. Chino had more drama and tension than Crawford v. Gamboa, Molina v. Matthysse, Lara v. Canelo, Lomachenko v. Salido or Russell, Kamegai v. Guerrero, Brook v. Porter) I think that a couple of those fights were 'better' in particular, Kamegai v. Guerrero and Molina v. Matthysse, but for me, Maidana v. Mayweather was the most tension filled, entertaining bout of the year so far. That is what is so baffling.. don't Floyd Fans want to see Floyd in a great fight? And where are the legions of Maidana Fans? Is this poor dude doomed to B-side status for the next three years till he retires? Can't Mexicans fall in love with this guy already? $esus $hrist, he deserves it. I know Mexicans hate Argentina but.... get over it already Mexicans.
Anyways.... totally got sidetracked. I'm pretty sure Floyd can just switch out Maidana with either Khan, Thurman or ... Matthysse, Porter... Brook on short notice.... Garcia... really, anyone.
Nobody tells Floyd what to do.
