I guess most people anticipate Hopkins to decision Kovalev rather easily. This is indeed an exciting fight.

That is the absolute last thing I can imagine happening. Hopkins can't even decision Tavoris Cloud or Karo Murat "easily." Kovalev is way better than anyone Hopkins has fought in a while.

As for the Cloud fight it was "pretty easy" -- "Cloud cut over left eye lid from accidental head butt in rd. 6; and cut over right eye lid from accidental head butt in rd. 12."

As for Shumenov or Murat: they didn't fight a living body ranked above #20 (not even #50 in Murat's case) before Hopkins...

(My sincere and uninterested advice would be not to cut the killer's eyes by "accidental headbutts" -- the killer might react eratically.)

By easy I'm talking Hopkins winning 10-12 rounds. He didn't beat either guy that way, even if he was never in any trouble of losing.

If Cloud and Murat can take rounds of Hopkins, there's no way he stops Kovalev from doing the same. This will be hard for Hopkins, win or lose, and I can't imagine any way it's not.

Boxing fans are giving Kovalev too much credit. Kovalev's best victory was against Nathan Cleverly. That doesn't make him a beast by any rational person's (this does not include posters on the BoxingScene message board) definition, in spite of his KO ratio. I seel Kovalev as being in the same category as guys like Lucas Bute, Matthysse, Randall Bailey and Acelino Frietas. All were considered dangerous knockout artists based on their records -- until they stepped in the ring with a quality opponent and got exposed.

Hopkins will take Kovalev to school the same way he took Kelly Pavlik to school. In the end, Hopkins will win the fight 8-4 in rounds.
