this is not only the worst era in HW boxing, it is the most boring. most of the championship fights f#cking suck.
and no, stivern is not a champion. he holds a special colored belt, and they give them away like candy.
I guess it's all subjective.

Damn I was starting to take interest in this one. Well I'd be ****ting bricks if I was Pulev. Hopefully the fight is just rescheduled and not canceled. Bicep injuries sometimes carry a long recovery time...but let's see what they say when they knw more. Anyway, Wlad and Stiverne are now basically free, we know the sanctioning bodies will make up new rules to allow a fight like that to happen.Last edited by LA_2_Vegas; 08-26-2014, 04:27 PM.

I'm sorry that's the reality. The sport is simply not that popular in the states. Do big fights happen in US? Yes, are all big fights in US? No.
If it wasn't for Mexican fighters fighting in US, which just makes sense for Mexicans. The Mexicans with money are in US, Mexican diaspora will go to support their fighters in any city in US, it just makes sense for Mexican fighters to build their careers in US.
Same with Ricans. Its North America, huge latino communities in US that loves boxing and will support any activity by their country men state side.
So take away the Latinos and what happens to US boxing? Exactly. What mecca? Fighters fight there because it makes sense for Mexicans and Ricans to fight there, the market is prime for them in US not in PR or Mexico.
Do you for one second think Canelo or JMM would be fighting in US if he could make the same or more money in Mexico? Not a chance. Maybe the odd fight for popularity sake.
Same with European fighters. Wlad made 20mil in Russia. Makes millions every fight in Germany...why come to US if he has a market in Europe.
Same with Klitschko's or other European fighters. Why do Klitschko not fight in Ukraine? Because they can make a lot more money fighting in Germany where there is a big eastern european community and the Germans love them because they chose to fight there in their youth.
The soccer argument can't be used here.
If you want to be an elite soccer player you must play in Europe.
If you want to be an elite basketball player you must play in US.
Why? Because that's where the elite LEAGUES are hosted.
Boxing is not a league.
I like the convenience of having a single country, in this case US with its size money and multiethnic composition as the place to be for boxing. But that no longer is the case.
Boxing is huge in other countries. People talk boxing in other countries like they talk about the NBA in North America. Huge stadium filling fights are not happening in US they are happening in Germany, UK, Russia and recently Argentina.

Problem for Fury is he's not really politically connected.
He doesn't have money behind him, or a big promoter. His following is also average really. So what's there for Wlad to gain?
