Sounds like he realizes the days of building up fighters with mismatches is over.. After Floyd and manny leave, there truly won't be a legit big time PPv star outside of canelo. Cotto is nearly done.. For boxing to gain young fans in the future, they are gonna have to have the best fight the best.. No more political matchmakingComment

What took so frickin long?!!!? Do something about it now!!!

3 or 4 Middleweight belt Holders??? Floyd, Manny, Brook belt holders at 147???

If you have ONE Organization, ONE World Champion at the top of each weight class, it will encourage better title defenses, AND the Number 1 Contender will always get a Mandatory shot at the title. Your Champion defends against who he wants as often as he wants during the year, BUT one of those defenses HAS to be against the Number 1 Contender.

So here's a hypothetical: if Gennady is your MW Champion and he wants to fight 3 times in 2015, that's fine if he wants to fight 4 times. ONE of those fights WILL be against the divisions No.1 Contender, let's say that's Cotto. So GGG can fight Rubio, Quillin, Macklin during the year but he's going to defend against No.1 Cotto somewhere in the calendar year, so plan accordingly.

If you're Mayweather atop the board, and you want to fight Maidana and you only plan to fight twice a year, then fight Maidana, but you will fight a mandatory No.1 Manny Pacquiao before year end.

If you're Amir Khan, and you've just moved up to 147... You're going to have to do more than just beat an unranked Welterweight named Collazo to earn a title shot. So figure out who in that Top 5 you want to beat up to get in contention for a possible title shot.

If you're Brandon Rios, Mike Alvarado, Zab Judah, you aren't in anyone's Top 10, so figure out who to fight and how to earn your way into that company.

It's the way Boxing used to be. You get the best fights, the most title defenses. The title defenses are REAL competitive defenses. The top 10 contenders will have to fight more against one another to position themselves for a title shot or fight the No.1 Contender in hopes of knocking him out of that mandatory spot for a title shot. And the guys at 12, 13, 14... Need to fight someone in the Top 10, and fight like hell to knock someone out, in order to break in themselves.

And if you're in that No.1 you gotta fight; you can't just sit there. If you stall and don't fight, you lose your No.1 ranking.

A change like that for Boxing is long overdue. The timing is actually great for Mayweather, because by the time they pull something together like that, he's out of Boxing and he'll agree its a helluva idea! Because it doesn't pertain to him. He'd even allow Everlast MX Gloves then!! Lol.

Seriously create ONE organization merging all the organizations together as one. Take Sulamain and each organization President, to form a Board for the one organization, and they collectively rank fighters every month. Now you have ONE belt/One Champion, and let Arum, GBP, Haymon, and any other promoter figure out who they can promote their guy to fight to move up the latter for a title shot, and if they have a champion, figure out who they will fight, and take notice as to who No.1 is because they will defend against No.1 before years end.

Of course this is just a quick scratch of possibilities, but these top fighters and promoters would be forced to fight one another, and champions forced to defend once a year against the No1 Contender.Last edited by TLC8; 08-24-2014, 08:28 PM.Comment

I don’t find entertainment in watchin’ low to non-rated punching bags get paid!

Too many clowns boxing that would be better off chasin’ careers as stuntmen than playin’ strong chin’d tune-ups that neither boxers care to fight nor fans care to watch!

What happened to boxing? bakk in the day if you were a fighter you got in there to fight n that was that! That’s what it used to be and certainly wat it shud be today, but there’s still too many tin cans, no-rated dukk-a-lots n paper champ chasin’ talk-but-don’t-walk clowns in the sport, not to mention the idiots who control the fights but don’t make the fights fans wanna see happen! Nowadays we pay to watch foolz get in there with no intention to fight but to run, treadin’ canvas for 10-12 rounds lookin’ for decisions to get them closer to a belt! Comment

Whether he likes it or not, some of these dark n slow years of boxing history in this day and age is gonna rest on Floyd’s shoulders n he’s gon’ have to carry that with him for the rest of his life.

Thing is, Floyd had the means to get that fight with pacman started a few years bakk, n as selfish as it is bein’ fans of boxing n wantin’ to dictate which fight he shoulda taken, whether he likes it or not, he is basically the reason boxing had slowed down as much as it had.

Imagine what kinda impact that sole fight alone potentially had on the sport of boxing in their prime. It had enough TNT potential in it entertainment-wise to possibly turn MMA into a ‘second-option’/dying sport viewing-wise in the day.

Think about it.. an undefeated fighter who has virtually perfected the art of defense in boxing vs a virtually unstoppably unique fighter in terms of boxing/fighting style that textbook can’t call it a signature because it’s too complex to be labelled n at the same time, dude’s precision is too accurate to be considered wild.. that’s ridiculous on so many levels!

I’m a firm believer that where there is talent, there is also responsibility. Floyd had/has that responsibility to put the boxing sport up there.. but it’s because of him that Grade-A boxers nowadays are in the same pool as lazy boxers of the past decades. Everyone is for the money and no one is really in it for the essence of it what it is, which is the passion to just fight. Manny has that fire.. Cotto has that fire.. I don’t know too many other fighters out there who have it, but without the right fights, it’s just tune-ups n mediocre entertaiment.

All i’m sayin’ is that everybody looks at Floyd for a reason--all boxers in all divisions. What’s even crazy is not only do they wanna fight him, they ‘respect’ him because of what he did to get there so they r only gonna fight as hard as he gives it whereas, if that fight was made in the earlier years, the explosiveness I’m sure woulda been so big that even so-called self-proclaimed/media proclaimed Grade-A boxers who feel like they’re already at the highest level of their boxing/fighting capacities would instinctively up their game with a brand new desire to fight better than what they currently do.. and boxing really needs hungry fighters today, but as long as that fight ain’t made, boxing is gonna stay an under-appreciated 2nd, maybe even 10th option for sports viewers. don’t get it twisted, if that fight ever happens, I’m definitely gonna watch it.. but the prime status of both is not there anymore. They’re both old news now n what shoulda been ‘coulda possibly eventuated into a 2nd, 3rd, maybe 5th rematch depending on the outcome.

It’s too little too late though, n if Top Rank woulda put that money on the table earlier instead of protectin’ their cash cow, the ‘milk’ their cow coulda ‘produced’ then woulda been ‘consistently in the $100M+ EASILY.

Sux to have to wait to see 2 of the greatest fighter of our time fade out into a possible ‘decision’ match when in their prime a KO coulda most certainly been a possibility or at least the excitement woulda generated more fans for boxing, which because of idiots that were stated in the earlier, are practically reason why the sport virtually died to begin with. All about money and not enough about the passion n production of great fights! pretty sure we can guarantee this kinda garbage never flew round the Ali era.. it’s b.s. on any level no matter which angle u look at it n it’s the ONLY sport in which this happens! It’s ******! Comment
