Comments Thread For: Jose Pedraza Aims For Francisco Vargas Showdown

IBO super featherweight champion Jose "Sniper" Pedraza is aiming to have two or three more fights in 2014, including a showdown against unbeaten Mexican contender Francisco Vargas (24-0-1, 14KOs).

Vargas is climbing quickly in the ranks and defeated two Puerto Rican boxers in his most recent outings. He won a decision over Abner Cotto and then last month knocked off two-division champion Juan Manuel Lopez in three rounds.

I thought Juanma had something left in the tank. Wrong. Abner never did look good. I like Pedraza, but this is a hard fight for him, Pedraza is not a runner, he has style, this could turn into a war. I like Pedraza, his zero is real, no matter what Teddy says.

Vargus got this one. Pedraza is not ready for a guy like Vargus.

Vargas has better defense and is physically stronger and has had obviously better competition. Pedraza is way too easy to hit. Expect a dominant win by Vargas if they fight.

You are Vargas fan and say somebody is easy to hit? Vargas is a face first fighter, a good one, but straight ahead. Juanma was an old man, boxing, and Abner only won in Puerto Rico. Pedraza is not old and fights everywhere, anywhere. I still like Pedraza in this.

I'm not a fan of either, they both have potential. I have seen both guys fight many times and I see Vargas taking this one. Abner and JuanMa are far better than anyone on Pedraza's resume and unlike Vargas, it is nearly impossible to miss hitting Pedraza.

I have more faith in Pedraza than any other PRican fighter, even above Verdejo. Pedraza's ain't perfect by any means, but at this stage he has showed great stamina and precision with his punches, with an underrated footwork. Vargas is Mexico's rising stock right now to me, but Pedraza might take his 0 with his accuracy

That last guy Pedraza beat was arguably better at this stage than Juanma and Abner was never that good. To say Vargas had better competition is questionable. He has had more fights, more exposure, he also is at home in the South West, which is where Pedraza has the edge. He can fight anywhere, but let Vargas go to Puerto Rico for this one and the odds go way up.
