I found it sickening that Lacy was allowed to go on past the 4th round, that was a career ending fight. Lacy was too brave for his own good, and should have been pulled out to fight another day. It was even more one-sided than Lewis v Tyson, and that is saying something. The corner men are supposed to protect him, not allow him to take the head punches he did. How on earth he will ever have the confidence to get in a ring again I'll never know.
Calzaggi has never looked over the hill, disinterested in a few fights perhaps. He has not taken, in all his career put together, the amount of punishment Lacy took in 12 rounds.
Lacy was made to go to hospital for a brain scan, and whatever the result, his chief corner man and manager should be banned from boxing for life.
A british ref would have stopped this fight before half way, but not the US puppet ref on show today.
Whoever Joe fights next, he had better be on a completely different level to Lacy, who was not even in his league.
To those who say Calzaggi has never fought anyone(was Lacy someone?) I say boxing doesn't start and end with US boxers.

I agree with the guy above, the fight was lost by round 1. It should have been stopped, Lacy took a severe beating.

Wow, I really wasn't expecting Joe to defeat Lacy at all. And what happened, he dominated the fight, and made it look seriously easy! You can't act like Lacy's a bum, because his record clearly states that he's a force. And Calzaghe wasn't even in his prime. Whoah. I can imagine how disappointed a lot of Americans are, but I have to admit I was real impressed by Joe, he's definitely one of the greatest super middleweights ever.
Lacy isn't a bum, but his record wasn't noteworthy before Joe, and neither was Joe's. They both had slightly above average compeition.

And yes, Joe is still pretty much in his prime. He's certainly not far from it.

Also, yes, I was very impressed by Joe. Now it's time to test his skills vs more established fighters like Tarver and Johnson, and maybe even Woods and Kessler.

kind of like how lennox lewis avoided everyone and anyone until they got real ****in old and past their primes.

Anyway, as an american, yes i am dissapointed, but its ok, at least Lacy went into HIS backyard and fought him. Got his ass beat though.

Why would Lennox Lewis, a year older than Mike Tyson, wait for Tyson's old age? That still made Lewis a year older? If you remember correctly, it was Lewis that took Tyson to court, and was paid $10 million dollars in a get out clause?????? Whether you believe it or not, Lewis is the best of all time. The reason? He took less punches per fight than any other heavyweight champion, retired with his brain still intact, and his bank account full. He lost 2 fights, both times on his feet, and won both rematches. Who did he avoid?
No one will I admire more than Ali, but Lewis would have beaten Ali too

don't get me wrong, oasis, I loved Ali, I was priveledged to actually see him fight once, at Highbury football stadium. My main memory was seeing blood spurting out of Cooper's eye,in his second fight with Clay, through binoculars.

However, it was far from a one sided-fight, and a 14st Henry Cooper put up a hell of a show against Clay. In the first fight he knocked Clay down with his left hook, and Clay's corner cut the glove to give him time to recover, smart corner work! Angelo Dundee admitted to it 20 years later

Can you imagine Lennox Lewis ever fighting someone as small as Henry Cooper,he was not that much bigger than Calzaghi? I can't. Lennox punched far harder than Clay, as the records show, and was as fast as him. How many times did you ever see Lewis outboxed?
2 lucky punches put him down in 2 fights he was winning. The only real poor show was against Klitchko, when he retired and came out to play again at nearly 20st, he looked slow, ponderous and uninterested but still won. The nearest anyone got to outboxing him was Frank Bruno, who cancelled out Lewis's jabs with his own.

Lewis will never have Clay's great personality, or the sense of fun he brought to boxing. But if you read between the lines with what George Foreman says about Lewis, I agree with him, he's the most talented of all heavyweights ever, and rarely took a seriously hard punch. He won't be punchy when he's fifty!
There's no medals for losing your brain in the ring.
