Comments Thread For: Matthysse's Trainer: We Wanted Garcia, But Got Ortiz

Luis ‘Cuty’ Barrera is currently overseeing sparring between his charge Lucas Matthysse (35-3, 33 KOs) and fellow countryman Luis Carlos Abregú (36-1, 29 KOs) in Junín, Argentina. Matthysse and his camp fly to the United States on August 30 for their fight with Mexican ****er, Roberto Ortíz (31-0-1, 24 KOs).

Barrera told BoxingScene that although he sees Ortíz as a good opponent who punches hard, he would have preferred a rematch with Danny García instead.

Matthysse lost. He had the shot and could not pull it off. Maybe he gets it sometime in the future.

It's as simple as that. Herrera is more deserving of a rematch with DSG than Matthysse is.

"Garcia has nothing to prove" "he beat Mathysse fair and square." "Why should he give Mathysse a rematch just because 75% of the boxing world wants it and he's the #1 challenger?"

Agree! Only fight at jr ww I wanna see Danny take. Needs to win in convincing fashion to erase what happened in the first fight.

All of Garcia's would-be valid reasons to not rematch Matthysse & Herrera went down the toilet when he fought #77 @ 135. He clearly has nothing better to do, so do the rematches.

It's like Cotto saying Golovkin wasn't a big enough name then calling up Andy Lee instead.

You gotta at least be consistent.

If Garcia stays at 140, Herrera is his best option, and Matthysse is second best.

If not, then hopefully he fights someone good at 147.

Mother****ers couldnt even give him Herrera. That wouldve made a rematch with Garcia more deserving. But of course none of those guys outside Matthysse's team want it.

Herrera would be the best option for Garcia right now, then Matthysse. But for Garcia to keep avoiding a rematch with a guy who was winning til an eye injury... that's just b.s.
