by Cliff Rold - Two weeks from now, it arrives.

The best boxing weekend of 2014…and Showtime. From Friday, September 5, through Saturday, September 6, there will be top-tier fights in four countries, across several weight divisions.

The least significant card of that weekend, on paper, will be on Showtime in the US.

Of the top matches, the bout likely to combine the most tickets sold with the highest number of global television viewers has yet to land anywhere on the US television dial. Recent history suggests it will. Whether it’s an ESPN affiliate (even online) or another cable outlet in the eleventh hour, one would assume there would be somewhere to see a battle for the World Heavyweight Championship.

This isn’t kingpin Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO, holder of every Heavyweight honor but the WBC’s) fighting someone like Alex Leapai, a long faded Jean Marc Mormeck, Mariusz Wach, or Francisco Pianeta.

No, this is a real defense against a real challenger.

It might be, in the moment, the best of Klitschko’s challengers. Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KO) earned his shot in 2013, becoming the first man not named Wladimir Klitschko to defeat longtime fixture Tony Thompson since the year 2000. A 2005 World Amateur Bronze Medalist and 2008 Super Heavyweight Olympian, Pulev at nearly 6’5 and weighing around 250 lbs. is one of the few challengers in the division who can match Klitschko’s size. Pulev is classy, but I do not see what he has in his arsenal that would be a real threat to Vladimir. Vlad by late stoppage or UD.

Pulev gets beaten down like all the rest. David Haye was the only chance.

Pulev has nothing to offer against Wlad.

No lateral movement, limited power, too small, slow.....yeah, this is another beat down.

In the last four or five years there's only been three guys who were that interesting for Wlad as challengers who worked themselves up to the top in any real way. Haye, Povetkin and Pulev. Maybe Pulev won't do well but Wlad fighting an undefeated, big, durable outside fighter with a great jab and a winner's mentality will be interesting. Especially nearing forty. And Pulev has one underrated thing in his favor. Not many long range guys can go to the body at heavyweight like Pulev can. The guy can dig even if he's not a straight up puncher.

Too small? Doesn't he have almost the exact same weight and reach and he's only two inches shorter? I don't get it.

When you have the aforementioned problems; no lateral movement, very limited power and very little speed you need to at least have size on your side.

How is a guy with those other limitations going to have success when he is smaller? He can't use speed as he doesn't have any, he can't do it inside as Wlad will just hold and lean on him...it's going to be a fight fouht at range and Pulev has very, very little to offer.

Pulev doesn't have the speed, skill or power to beat Wlad. To beat Wlad I think you either need to have the offensive speed with volume combinations of Manny or Khan, the skill and savvy of Hopkins to beat Wlad at his own game, or the power of Wilder to put him to sleep with one punch.

I know it's extreme to expect someone with the attributes of these great fighter(excluding Wilder butpower his is life threatening)po but really their is nobody even half way decent to even challenge Wlad besides Wilders punch. The only other chance of Wlad losing is Tyson Fury because he's big and Scrappy enough to fight out of Klitschkos clinches and has the power to end him.

Pulev will just get jabbed and hugged to death unless he has something he's hidden inside him his whole career.

Pulev is very strong and durable. He's a natural-born fighter - he does what it takes to win. People should watch several of his fights before coming to any conclusions about him - he adapts during a fight and changes his approach depending on the opponent. He has a better inside game than most, but doesn't use it in every fight.

He starts slow, but gets better as a fight progresses and looks fresher in the late rounds. His excellent stamina gives him a real chance for a late TKO win over Wladimir.

I'm picking Wlad to win, but Pulev has a better chance than anyone Wlad has fought in a long time, better than Haye or Povetkin.

Pulev is good, but Wlad is great.

Wlad will win this without much trouble I would imagine. But it is heavyweight boxing and Pulev is one tough SOB.
