Well if you look at the names he has fought i would say for a first defence he is viable.

      Boxing fans....

Rios is a good choice. Good name and tough fighter! It's not like he's fighting Erik Morales or Casamayor or someone completely over the hill.

Rios is a good fighter in his prime. Brook will just beat him most likely.
is brook coming off a ko loss? maybe then it would make sense to fight rios but since he's not its a lil strange.

Eddie Hearn did comment on Thurman. And he's saying the same thing as everyone else are saying:

"tremendous fighter, little reward" - which I guess is true. Nobody outside the hardcore boxing community knows who he is, because he's never been in a big fight. Has he ever even headlined a medium sized show before?

Rios has headlined on HBO multiple times. And for a first defense, honestly, you don't just jump in with Thurman. That needs to be a massive fight.

Thurman really needs to get himself in a mandatory position.

crazy how rios is one who is looked at low skill inside because he doesnt want to hold. its the opposite to me man, those fools hold cuz that amauter **** never taught them **** about the inside game!!! look how many times rios has been fouled in his fights!!

3 near DQs against him cuz they dont know what to do.

brook will do the same thing!

So Rios is just a guy you're fighting if you're coming off a KO loss? I find that a little strange. I also find it strange to even compare Kell Brook a first time world champion to the level of Manny Pacquiao, 8 division champ and the biggest star in the world.

It's similar to when Porter fought Malignaggi. Did Malignaggi's magic run deserve him a title shot? Of course not. Nobody really complained then.

Of course Rios is a good first defense. Saying anything else is completely ridiculous.

well if you are judging by joe calzaghe standards it's pretty good.

What makes Rios a bad defense? We are talking about a fight that will happen in a couple of months. Rios has been in fights of the year, and on a massive PPV stage.

He's ever really only been outclassed by Pacquiao.

                    I really can't see how he's a bad defense.

why is it bad? rios has lost 2 out of 3. in his win he was losing until his opponent was dq'd. he's had 2 total fights at 147. he's not ranked in the top 10 by anyone credible. what makes this a good defense? because rios has been on ppv? so has baldomir. should brook fight him?
