  • Comments Thread For: J. Mayweather on Golovkin: Forget Floyd, Fight Ward

Trainer Jeff Mayweather, who is also a former fighter and the uncle of WBC/WBA 147 and 154-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. - would like to see WBA/IBO middleweight king Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) move up in weight to face the top guy at super middleweight, Andre Ward.

Golovkin, and his trainer Abel Sanchez, have stated in several interviews that they are wiling to drop down to 154-pounds for a fight with Mayweather.

Jeff says Golovkin's willingness to fight Mayweather at 154 is nothing more than a payday grab. If he really wants the fight, then Golovkin - as Saul Alvarez was forced to do - would have to drop down to a weight below the junior middleweight limit.

So if GGG was wiling to come down to 154, Floyd would not fight a Junior Middleweight for Floyd's Junior Middleweight title? That's right, Floyd already proved he is not willing to fight guys who weigh in at 154 for the 154 pound title. And some have the nerve to wonder why Prima Donna Floyd is disliked so much.

He's got a point. You want a big fight, make a big move. Ward would love to easily expose you if you would like to jump up to 168.

in all his years as a fighter floyd jr has never accepted a challenge like Triple GGG and he never will. as far as a legacy goes he has none. if floyd jr had any balls he would fight Triple GGG bare knuckle in red square at high noon winner take all

Anyone saying GGG should move up to fight Ward should also be saying Ward should move up to fight at 175, if they are not being biased.

I'm sure with enough time Golovkin could make 152 and still kick Floyd's butt.

Agree. I've always said that. Saying GGG should up and fight ward is like saying Floyd should move up and unify titles with molina. It makes no financial sense

A fight against Ward could be at least as big as Canelo-Lara or even Cotto-Martinez.
