Comments Thread For: Diaz Gives Shawn Porter The Edge Over Keith Thurman

Former champion Julio Diaz is the fighter only to share the ring with both Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15KOs) and Keith Thurman (23-0-1, 21KOs).

Later tonight, Porter will have a tough nut to crack when he defends his IBF title against mandatory challenger Kell Brook (32-0, 22KOs), as the main event of a Showtime televised tripleheader from the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Over the last few months, a number of fans were demanding to see a fight between Porter and Thurman.

Good analogy. Thurman is definitely there to be hit more than Porter is. Although One Time does move around the ring more, Porter comes ahead and pressures you and is good at fighting that pressure style, more so than Thurman. Factor in the gas tank and speed/athleticism Porter has with his legs and I can agree Porter is the slight favourite if they fight right now today. Doesn't mean much though as Thurman is good enough to beat Porter right now if he fights the right fight. Great fight, hope we see it soonish but not TOO soon. 2015 late or 2016 i think is good as Thurman still has to get in the ring with a couple more experienced names.

I agree on the predicted outcome. Thurman is making the mistake that many like him have made in the past. Too in love with his power which has him neglecting other aspects of his game.

Keith has to learn to let the KO come to him instead of going for the kill on every shot. He makes himself too available.

Fine assessment. But Thurman does adapt well after he gets clobbered. Thing is not every time you get hit you'll be able to take it. Better to be cautious from the opening bell.

I just don't think so. Thurman is proven. The dude is freaking knocking every fool out. And with body shots too. There's a reason no top fighter is willing to face him. He's gotta get a mandatory eventually doesn't he?

Porter is kinda the last fighter to take advantage of Thurmans mistakes. He doesn't even have a jab, he just has his lunging and inside game. That's can work against guys who can't hurt you like Paulie and Devon, but not against someone as powerful as Thurman.

Diaz didn't even land a meaningful punch against Thurman so I don't know why he says that Thurman is there to be hit. He wasn't even in the ring with Keith long enough to get a feel for him.

Diaz may need to check his head after Thurman checked it for him.

Thurman doesnt have the best chin....trust me the signs are all there

Immense power, but he better sort out that defense, he reminds me of Khan-esque when he takes a punch.

How many times has Thurman been down or in trouble? Not like he has Amir Khans China chin. He's a big, strong welter. Not saying he can't be hurt or knocked out but I haven't seen him in trouble even once.
