Who will you be rooting for: Hopkins or Kovalev?

Hopkins has been spoiled and a bit delusioned by his recent competition. Shumenov, Murat, and Cloud are not Kovalev. All of them were either 1 dimensional or just not very good to begin with. Kovalev on the other hand is a dynamic combination puncher with more power than he's ever seen before.Hopkins knows every trick in the book.
I'm 99% certain he'll cut Sergey with a head butt, like he did to Dawson and Cloud. Dawson had a big gash, but managed to survive the distance.
Hopkins has never lost a one-sided fight. I'm sure he won't get stopped, although he may get outworked.
The ref Steve Smoger helped B-Hop against Murat, and whether it's his pal Smoger or someone else, the ref will be on his side. And unless it's domination, Hopkins will receive the win on the cards. It may go to the cards because of a bad cut on Kovalev after an "accidental" head butt.
Hopkins will use head games more than usual this time - for example, he'll complain about Kovalev's gloves just before the fight.
I'm rooting for Kovalev, but I'm predicting a close decision win for Hopkins.
Hopkins is gonna have to have the performance of the century to pull this off, but at age 50 its gonna take a miracle.Comment

Lol he'll survive. The guy has never gone 10 rounds in his entire life, forget about experience going 12
Hopkins WILL go 12 rounds, he's not KO'ing Hopkins. We don't know how Kovalev fights beyond 8 rounds, which he's only gone ONE time in his pro career. We know Hopkins starts the first 4 rounds slow, studying his opponent, and gets better as the rounds go. By 9-12, he takes you into deep waters, is comfortable, sticking his tongue out, making you miss, using footwork like a 25 your old in his prime, luring you into the ropes. That would throw Kovalev off, it would throw anybody off.
I see people talking about Kovalev's workrate. Workrate in what, 4 rounds? Let me see his workrate in 12 rounds. Calzaghe averaged 1,000 punches in his last 4 fights coming into the Hopkins fight, Hopkins minimized it to 700. When you face a counterpuncher who moves around, that work rate all of a sudden gets halved of what you are used to throwing. Kovalev throws like 400 punches in these quick outings he's had in 5-7 rounds. Watch Hopkins limit him to 400 something punches in the entire 12 round fight. I would be surprised f Kovalev manages to throw 600 punches in 12 rounds, that would be a lot, and that's still a little bit compared to what Kov shows he's capable of throwing, according to his compubox stats.Comment

That's going a little extreme
I know he's your hero but you can't really believe that.
I'm going for Hopkins all day. If he can get nullify Kovs power I don't think Serg will have much else to offer, I hope Kov doesn't try and box him like he said because I don't think that works for him . It's just with Hopkins age that's a big if.
I like Kov I just have a tougher time believing the hype when He's never faced elite opposition and hasn't gone past 8 rds. Can't wait for this fight, Props to both for getting this fight done, and hopefully winner gets Adonis.Comment

Yes. I believe it. Kovalev has all the tools to be an ATG. IMO.
He just needs guys to get in the ring with him.
Hopkins, Adonis, Ward, he beats them all IMHO. If Kovalev were to beat Adonis and Ward after Hopkins, unify all titles and retire undisputed-undefeated 175lb king... he is an ATG and HOFer.
Just wait.
As he says himself- he doesn't like to talk- his fists will do the talking. I don't have to hype him up. Hopefully Adonis comes to his senses and fights him if he beats Hopkins.
inb4 so kovalev is the new matthysee, eh, lets see if youre still a fan once hopkins beats him. its incredible how these hbo bums get overrated for beating tomato cans. whats next, rod salkas uncleLast edited by King_; 08-13-2014, 10:43 PM.Comment
