Ward is claiming that Goosen was dishonest and did not disclose money made in fights for Ward between 2004-2012. Cited specific examples of fights with Bika, Abraham, Froch and Dawson.

The problem with all this is that Andre Ward re-signed with Dan Goosen in May of 2011. After fights with Abraham and Bika had already been completed and his showdown with Froch had already been negotiated for.

Was he not aware of these so called in discrepancies by goosen then? If this was happening where was his manager, lawyers and people who we're suppose to protect him before signing a new contract in 2011? If the money wasn't adding up why didn't he look to sign with GBP or TR?

Something doesn't add up. And the fact that the courts have several times ruled in Goosen's favor suggest what's not adding up is on Ward's side. Seems like he signed a deal he's no longer happy with and is crying and moaning to get out of the contract rather than honer it.

It's not a question of rooting (I know it's hard for some people to conceive of) but when you have a contract, and you're nearing the end of it, a promoter has ideally worked your career in such a way that he's positioned you for a big fight, but if you want to get that big fight (*and the big money associated with it*), you gotta sign the extension.

Fighters go, "oooh, big money, where do I sign?" and then a couple years pass and they don't like how things are working out (or the grass looks greener somewhere else) so they start suing everybody under the sun, for every reason conceivable.

Do what Floyd did: "Bob, I want out: how much is it going to cost me?" He borrowed some money (so that he didn't have to put it all up himself and leave himself with low cash flow) and he bought out his contract.

Or Ward could get in the ring and fight for now ... and when extension time comes around and he's offered another big-money fight, he could eschew the temptation to take the money, take a few months and wait for the contract to expire, and then go as he pleases.

Whether (or not) Ward genuinely got hosed under the terms of his most recent contract extension is irrelevant. What *IS* relevant is that it's pretty clear that Ward has tried every possible way to get out ... but it seems like that contract is airtight.

Right now Ward has 3 options:

(1) STFU and fight and wait for the current agreement to run out, or
(2) Bite the bullet & buy out the contract right now
(3) Go through the tediously slow process of civil litigation and sit on the shelf till 2016 and hope it gets resolved before then.

1 & 2 are the good options and 3 is the bad one (and it looks like that's the option he's choosing)

djt's the guy talking the most sense so far... his presentation of the fighter / promoter relationship is essentially as I understand it.

Another element is that the second Ward / Goosen contract seems to have significantly overvalued Wards $ value. He might be one of the best fighters in the world, but if people don't want to see him fight, networks aren't gonna pay a minimum $1.75 mil per bout.

HBO were basically screwed on the Rodriguez fight (in part cos Haymon became involved part way through negotiations on the side of La Bomba) and showed they wouldn't fall for the same on Stevenson - Fonfara.

Ward appears to want Superstar level wages but simply doesn't bring in Superstar level revenues.

I have to admit I can't claim full knowledge of the circumstances, but if the Rodriguez purse and the contracted $1.75mil per fight are accurate I can easily imagine that it's really hard to get fights for Ward.

The only fighters who could justify $1.75mil paydays for Ward are guys with other options anyway.... either B side guys (in relation to Ward) who could earn as much fighting someone else as the A side (such as GGG) or financial A side guys like Pascal who don't need to sacrifice so much of their payday on a risky fight anyway.

Ward's kinda dug himself into a pit IMO, and the longer he remains inactive, the deeper it's gonna get.

Hasn't gotten him fights? He got him plenty of fights prior to Ward taking Goosen to court.
How can goosen negotiate a fight for a fighter who is suing him and dirtying his name in public?

Because that's his job. People everyday do their job in spite of the people they work with or for. ...
