Arguello wanted to duck Salvador Sanchez?

I was reading a great article on Salvador Sanchez and when i got up to this part i was a little shocked i always thought Arguello would be a little strong for Sanchez at lightweight, but i guess he didn't want to fight him.

Plans were underway to have Sanchez move up to lightweight to face Alexis Arguello, after a scheduled LaPorte rematch. According to Sanchez’s attorney, Juan Jose Torres Landa, who handled the pre-fight negotiations, Arguello, who had problems with movers, didn’t really want to face Sanchez, knowing he would have trouble with the Mexican’s style. The fight was in the signing stages but never got finalized. Had he gone on to fight Arguello, Sanchez intended to retire afterward and study to become a doctor.

I don't like Duran and Argullo is one of my favorites, but i think Duran would have won.

Alot of fighters say other fighters ducked them. Arguello was already fighting as a lightweight in 1980, the year Sanchez first won the featherweight title. He could have dropped back down but Sanchez's star didn't shine until he knocked out Gomez in 81. Arguello was already lightweight champ.

Duran would have murked Arguello worst than what Pryor did.

Arguello vs. Sanchez is one of the ATG matchups. I see Sanchez winning by UD or late TKO, but having to survive some scary moments.

As you can see, my 3 favorite fighters of all time are Leonard, Sanchez, Arguello. But from what I heard, interest in the fight was peaking when Sanchez died in the car accident. Arguello did have problems with movers or at least some. He seemed interested in the fight. I go with Sanchez by decision if they had fought. But Arguello and Sanchez were not only great, they were great guys. I got Leonard and Arguello's autographs at the end of their careers. I was too young to get Sanchez's and he was nowhere nearby where I could have.

But that is one fight I did not want to see happen. Two all-time favorites going at it would have been bittersweet to the 10th power.

Not even remotely true. A) Anyone who fights Duran, Hearns, and Hagler is not afraid of Pryor, period. B), Leonard and Pryor sparred MANY TIMES and were friends, close friends and visited each other's families, there was no fear at all between them, period. C) Pryor did not bring anywhere near the money Leonard earned in the fabulous 4, but they signed to fight. Read more on that. D) If Pryor was serious about challenging Welterweights, he would have moved up and fought a Welterweight contender, just like Duran did. Duran fought 2 ranked Welterweights to get a shot. And Leonard still offered Pryor 2 fights. E) Pryor stayed at 140 where he was comfortable and did not fight at Welterweight in his prime. I know plenty about these two fighters, I have emailed both Leonard and Pryor's wife in the past.
