However Hearns win over Cuevas isn't better than what you put with Margarito over his opponents. They're just picking cause of name. Cuevas doesn't even come close to how good Margarito was at WW.
Thomas Hearns' welterweight resume is limited for an ATG

I have many times. It's a clash of styles and size. Duran couldn't figure him out.
Hearns did get the advantage. I don't deny that.Comment

I see what you mean but if you saw my reasoning on the seperate thread before getting involved you would know why i said they were good wins, they weren't as over the hill as he makes out.Comment

Did you even read what i wrote or did you just look at the bold points and draw conclusions? if you didn't want to read it all that's fine but if you are going to make points i already mentioned then that don't make sense.Tommy fought better competition than you think, my guess is your looking at names and the numbers that go with them and don't know if their quality opponent wins or not!
Unlike Leonard and many others Tommy had about a dozen "lets see" bouts then got tested. He fought Clyde Gray then Segundo Murriello and Harold Weston all knocking on the door for title fights! He took on Bruce Curry then Mikie Colbert before Cuevas. Randy Sheilds was next leading up to the Leonard fight!
If you had a more extensive history background you'd know and give credit to Hearns out boxing Leonard for the majority of their first fight. He did get stopped but unlike most fans thinking theres no shame in that, he fought well and showed his heart and desire to succeed.
I have Hearns as a top fifteen Welterweight and Tommy's right hand allows him to be competitive against anyone from any era!
I clearly said he deserves credit for taking the huge fight with Leonard, and that he faded late but that doesn't change the fact he lost in the end. I can't pretend he won the fight just because he was beating him and then got stopped lol that's like saying Taylor beat Chavez Sr.
Lol not only do you think the likes of Weston, Gray etc are more talented than the wins I listed for Margarito, you claim they are far more talented. That's a very bold statement with literally no reasoning for such a statement. My guess is that you grew as a kid or young adult watching the 80's era and view it in a rose tinted manner as if they are Gods. That's all good but at least give back up for your claims.
I'm looking forward to hear why the mighty Bruce Curry and Harold Weston are far more talented than Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez

hearns' WW resume ****s all over margaritos.
OP just doesnt have any knowledge of hearns' era and gives margarito credit for guys like cintron and clottey while overlooking much better fighters on hearns' resume out of ignorance.
guys like bruce curry, angel espada, clyde gray and eddie gazo are all as good or better than cintron and clottey. thats not even mentioning cuevas who considering the controversy surrounding the cotto fight is the best WW win on either guys resume.
title holders (back when there were just two belts) and top contenders in their day largely forgotten over time, just like cintron and clottey will be one day.
lets also keep in mind margarito basically spent his whole career at 147, only having two meaningful fights at 154 and losing both. hearns was like 23-24 when he moved up to 154.Comment

I agree that Hearns' resume may not seem as strong when compared to other atg. But I think it's clear that Hearns > Margarito no matter how you look at it. Margarito's best win, possibly only significant, is over cotto (which is tainted and heavily disputed). He beat a green Martinez. The other names on his resume are not better than the competition Hearns faced.Comment

Sonny he didn't fade in the end he got rocked while winning the fight! It happens even to the best at times. You give no credit because he lost....I do!
When you fight the best available competitors you can loose and the greatest have lost. Only fans have such screwball emotions when it comes to loosing.
In the eighties I was traveling the world working at boxing shows as a chief corner or a second as cutman.
I saw Hearns and Leonard grow up in the sport and the generation before them also. Cotto is a good little boxer but at 147 he has nothing for any of those men I mentioned. He is a lightwelter and he would struggle there against the 140lb greats. Sergio Martinez would do nothing against the great welters, he would be stopped most often. He has NO power!
If you can't punch hard throughout a fight you will be in trouble becoming a great fighter! Leonard had it in him and it took battling Hearns for it to come out. I give Leonard a lot of credit coming from behind but I give Tommy credit for his willingness and his challenge that brought Leonard back to win.
Fans are so funny when they talk about losses its as if your less of a man!!!
Ridiculous!
