Don't you see this is why? This is the new norm....you beat a guy a certain of fans like/worship, you become their enemy.
I think you may have a point there. There is some hidden, pent up aggression there for conquering Matthysse. Lord help the guy who outboxes GGG and Kovalev (which just might be Hopkins. And I like Kovalev, I am a Slav after all.)
That was a disgrace of a fight, Salka was clearly out of his depth from the first second he started stuttering in and out with a chin higher than a dentist's patient. That this should have passed as a championship fight is a black mark against everyone behind it.
There are 12 other fighters not named matthysse, peterson or Garcia to choose from at 140 legitimately ranked...
Maybe none of those guys (whoever they are) wanted the fight on that particular date and the Champ wanted to stay busy. The higher ranked you are, the more demanding you are.
But what's one "cherry pick" in a career that is just getting started? Garcia isn't going anywhere at his young age. There will be plenty of more Matthysse-esque caliber fights with a cherry pick in between.
Garcia is NOT a people's champ, PERIOD! A people's champ say's "hey, I want to erase all doubt and give Herrera a rematch and prove I had an off night". Instead, he fights Salka.
He knocked out the 77th ranked lightweight in the world and received $700,000 to do it. I wish I could hire Al Haymon to negotiate my next salary increase.
SCREW Garcia! Haymon Should Get Suspended For A Year For Such A Mismatch
Salka wasn't ranked in anyone's top 200! He looked scared and stiff from the opening bell. He looked 130 pounds soaking wet. Everytime Garcia moved or feinted , Salka flinched, or closed his eyes looking away. This was a very disgusting embarrassing fight. SHO Espinoza went off trashing Oscar for leaving town yesterday. Oscar wanted a unification fight between Garcia & Peterson as did Peterson. Haymon wouldn't let that happen and inserts Salka instead. I don't blame Oscar for leaving town. Let Haymon & Espinoza answer the tough questions. Just a real gross display of Manager Malpractice. Haymon should have HIS paycheck withheld. Felt sorry for Salka in there. He could have really gotten hurt.
