Comments Thread For: Curtis Stevens: We Won't See Cotto Fight Golovkin

Middleweight contender Curtis "Showtime" Stevens does not expect WBC champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) to accept a unification challenge from WBA/IBO champ Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs). Stevens faced Golovkin last November and was stopped in the eight round.

Cotto's trainer, Freddie Roach, said he'll consider Golovkin as a possible opponent in the future - if the puncher from Kazakhstan is willing to fight Cotto at a catch-weight of around 155-pounds, which is one-pound shy of the junior middleweight limit. Fight fans are shaking their heads at the thought of a "middleweight unification" taking place nearly one division south.

Cotto is proven, but Cotto is a really small MW. I think Steven would abuse Cotto, just b/c of the size difference. As a fan I would like to see Cotto box GGG, but GGG power would be a career ending moment for Cotto. Cotto says he want to fight GGG, but again, thats the politics behind boxing

I honestly don't see anything wrong with what Stevens said... Cotto would have trouble with any true 160 pounder.. I could see Cotto fighting GGG in his last fight.... and you all can figure out why.. LOL.. I like the Bradley fight.. then either GGG or Canelo next year.

Accuse me of being a hypocrite, fanboy, having double standards or whatever. But at this stage in their careers, guys like Cotto, Floyd, Manny, JMM, B-Hop, and even Ward to a lesser degree have earned the right to be selective about who yhey fight. Their legacies are secure. Its guys like GGG that still have **** to prove and need to step out there and take risks.

Read his post again. He said he thinks Stevens (NOT GGG) would abuse Cotto, just because of the size difference.
