Well known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis believes that the fight boxing fans have longed for over the past four years between “Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao and undefeated pound-for-pound No. 1 Floyd Mayweather Jr has to happen to save boxing.

Maniatis told BoxingScene/Manila Standard/Viva Sports that both Pacquiao and Mayweather “both realize the fight has to happen” in the face of a major downswing in pay-per-view numbers with a showdown between the two biggest names in boxing certain to boost the sport as well as the PPV numbers.

whats up with all this "save boxing" crap.. Theres plenty of great matchups that can be made besides this one. besides this fight was sizzling on the stove in 2009, that was the perfect time, now who the hell cares, we all know manny is not the same fighter. they had a chance and blew it, this fight is old, i hope they stop bringing it up. i just wish maidana and algieri both win to put an end to floyd vs manny talks, so sick of it.

Wow, there must really not be much interest in boxing anymore for a "Mayweather-Pacquiao" article to be published. Pacquiao's style is all wrong for Maywather... Mayweather wants no parts of it...Mayweather ducked Pacquiao... end of story... The not wanting to fight Pacquiao because of Bob Arum excuse exposed Mayweather as a ducker... he already negotiated with Bob Arum but as soon as blood testing and money split weren't excuses anymore.. he had to invent another one..

history will remember that Mayweather ducked Pacquiao and Mayweather would not seek out the reasonably toughest challenges like other great fighters of the past did...

Why does it need to happen? Honestly. I mean hell it's going on in some people's minds every day and everytime they come on this site. Mofo's have simulated this fight in their minds how many times now? There is more enjoyment in the imagination of it than in it happening. Not because I think anyone guy stands more of a chance of winning than the other...it's just the nature of the sport. In this climate would Floyd fans risk his record to a controversial scorecard? Would Pacquaio's? No, and we all knew coming into this discussion five plus years ago that we wouldn't be satisfied with one fight, regardless of outcomes. The fact these guys are long @s shhhhhhht in the tooth also takes away from it. So now let's just imagine two fights, we know the numbers alone will demand a second fight...but we'd be talking at the first in 2015 and the second when? 2016? No thank you. I know it's going to happen regardless..the fact is Pacquaio or Floyd ain't cracking a million buys with any other fighter that's not going to ask for insane amounts of cash. Canelo and Cotto are million buy fighters as opponents, they are more interested in facing each other. So who is left? Unless Algieri pulls of an upset later this year or Maidana doing it next month. May 2015 we see two geezers fight each other, 6 years too late. Mofo's will eat it up, one side will act like at this stage the fight matters solely because their man won and in all likelihood the scorecards will be questioned until kingdom come. Enjoy the guaranteed shhh talking that'll ensue when and if this fight is ever signed.

This fight would of been made a long time ago if pac would of gotten a drug test done but he's afraid of needles.pac has no intention of fighting Floyd that's why he signed another long term contract with bob to continue hiding behind him.

The fight past its expiration date. Its will be nice if it happens but it proves nothing anymore other then they jsut want to cash in.

Neither of them are the same fighter they were circa 09. Floyd's legs are on their way out. 3-4 yrs back Floyd would have danced circles around maidana all night.
