They got too much respect for each other
Why did Andre Ward and Bernard Hopkins Agree Not To Fight Each Other?

Same reason Ward and Dirrell made an agreement to not fight in the middle of a tournament they both entered. That's just how Ward runs his career.Comment

What Ward says here in the link I posted above is telling.
"I think it would be a big event, but all parties have to be all in and it has to make sense all the way around."
Ward, at least at that point in time, sounded ready and willing. So that leads one to believe that Hopkins wasn't feeling it. Now I doubt Hopkins was ducking it -- maybe he just feels that strongly about Ward to the point where he didn't want it. I don't know. But Ward sounded as if he was down so long as Hopkins was. And apparently Hopkins was not.
Not that my opinion means jack **** but I think Ward beats Hopkins then and beats him now.Comment

Hopkins is 100 years old, respected ATG and A-side vs anybody in 160-190 lbs, nobody will blame him if he fight against fighter who came-up one weight classes after conquering his previous division AKA Andre wardComment
