  • Hopkins gets alot of respect from me

I dont like the guy and certainly wouldnt have a drink with him. But fair cop, if he steps in the ring with imo the scariest fighter ive ever seen(killed someone etc) he ranks well above mayweather for Balls alone.

Hes taken on Calzaghe, Pavlik, pascal, dawson, and now Kovalev, you really have to give credit where credit due.

I think its a 50 50 fight. A bit like the groves froch fight., i favured froch but that was my psycosis, and have no beef of peoples reasoning of thinking groves would win.

Saem with this fight, i think kOVALEV will stop him late, but can understand why people are picking a decision for Hopkins. And would not be surprised if he does decision kovalev. I just feel that people are overated Pavlik and underating Kovalev.

Kovalev throws at more angles than pavlik, moves in and out better, better timing and moe crucially way better power. Despite pavlik having imo carl froch level power(70 percent ko level).

Anyhows respect from me for Hopkins and he is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy above Floyd mayweather in legacy imo. Not even close.

I think he's getting universal respect for taking this fight, I hope for his sake that he knows what he's doing.

Kovalev is tailor made for Hopkins, but if he lands, Hopkins will drop. Stevenson is even worse, he is so inactive that Hopkins would destroy him. His movement, and and I aint even talking running would be enough to make Stevenson never set. Hopkins moves in the same spot but create different angles that you need to be really fast, long or have a high workrate to hit.

Kovalev has a really high workrate, especially in the early rounds from what I've seen. Hopkins took a couple of rounds to settle v Shumenov, I don't think he can afford that against Kovalev.

Like everyone else though, I'm not betting against Hopkins.

If you are only respecting him now then you need to watch more of his fights. He fought a peak Roy Jones not the expired powder Calzaghe fought (and he didnt make weight either), Trinidad, Winky Wright, Johnson and his then record defences against live opponents. The guy is high up there an will be appreciated when he retires just like everyone else.

RJJ wasn't at his peak in neither 1993 nor in 2010.

RJJ turned pro in 1989 and had 21 fights while Hopkins was 22-1. Toney probably faced a better version of RJJ but Hopkins and RJJ were in their prime at that stage. The one Calzaghe faced should not even be on his resume, That was not RJJ at all.

It's a lose lose situation for Kovalev. If he wins people will just say Hopkins was 50 yrs old and he loses people will say he lost to an old man. I doubt he will rise from such a psychological trauma.
