Obviously he isn't, just like Kovalev isn't Karo Murat or Shumenov.

I don't think I've seen anyone suggest that Kovalev will beat Hopkins simply because he also beat Nathan Cleverly, yet I've seen countless predictions of Hopkins' victories supported by nothing more than the fact that Hopkins beat Pavlik years ago at a different weight.

Sure, it's easy to say Kovalev looks better than Kelly.

But you also have to ask yourself, who fought the better opposition during the build up to fighting Hopkins: Kovalev or Pavlik?

Who fought better opponents, Jermain Taylor or Bernard Hopkins?

As far as recent opposition goes, Kovalev and Hopkins have beaten a similar level of opposition, and Kovalev is fighting the 2014 version of Hopkins, not some earlier version.

KOvalev power is scary, it doesn't look like he is throwing his punches with strength but when they land, damn.... he knocks you the fuck out, the first KD was amazing, a beautiful punch really nicely placed

Overall Pavlik was a better fighter but he was a true MW. Pavlik was unbeaten, ranked in top 10 p4p, and was lineal MW Champ of the world.

Remember, Hopkins made Pavlik go to 170 lbs for that fight.

Kovalev is at LHW and doesn't need to move up 10 lbs for the fight.

Taylor beat Hopkins both times and Pavlik beat Taylor twice...means nothing as Hopkins will be 50 for his last fight.

True, pavlik is more accomplished but I just think kovolev is better and time will show it... Plus he is fighting a 50 year old

Bernard. Not even close. How in the Lords name could you ask that question.

Again, I think you're taking the Pavlik comparison the wrong way.

No one is saying Hopkins will beat Kovalev because he beat Pavlik several years ago. What I'm saying is "IF" Hopkins beats Kovalev, a victory over Kovalev won't be a bigger win than his win over Pavlik
